I think that will be perfect for the intrusion into my rv.Re: Solar controller tie inThanks all for the responses. Based on all this I will try and mount towards the front and use the front storage compartment. I'll have to find someone who understands the drilling and sealing piece. I've installed plenty of solar systems for off grid cabin use but don't want to compromise my rv. Again, thanks everyone.Solar controller tie inI am getting ready to install a couple solar panels on my 28' Keystone Springdale and am trying to determine how to get the charging to to the front mounted 6V batteries. I was thinking of running the MC4 wiring down the fridge vent then to the wardrobe closet where the controller will be. From there my thought is to wire the controller to the 12V input lugs on the fridge. There is about a 23' run from there to the breakers (15 amp) then battery battery but I don't know the AWG of that wire. Would this work OK? I figure if it's 8 AWG it get a 2.5 % drop. Also if I installed more than 2 100W panels, the breaker to fridge would be too small I think. Outside of this I'd need to figure out how to get the controller in the front storage then charge cable tray from there to the batteries. That would be a bit out of my league though.Re: Material on outside of slide out warpingThank you everyone and sorry for not posting pictures, I know that would help. I took some but could not figure out how to upload them last night so gave up. Just like garysol, it is more of a cosmetic issue of me, kind of embarrassing, but also sounds like it happens on some TT's. I got to thinking this morning, a couple of years ago I think my gear system may have jumped a tooth as there is a 3/4 inch to 1 inch difference where the top of the molding inside of the slide meets the top of the cabin wall. I'll bet the alignment difference over time going in and out caused it to do this. Thanks for the replies. I'll see what I can do about the alignment and replace the panels, hopefully with a better quality. I still don't see where to attach a picture. Only a place to create an image that links from somewhere else on the internet.Material on outside of slide out warpingI have a 2013 Springdale with a single 12' slide out and when it is out I can see the thick plastic material (panels) on the front and back is warping pretty bad. The sealant around it on all sides looks fine and all the screws are tight and intact. It seems to be getting worse and I have no clue what can be causing it. IS there supposed to be some sort of adhesive behind the panels keeping them flat against whatever is behind them?Re: Running AC from Generator 150 feet awayI need to head to Montana for a few days so will try ramping up RPM this weekend to see what happens under load. The 115V is due to the length of cable but is 117 V at the house and I've never seen it higher.Re: Running AC from Generator 150 feet awayThere is a house wired to the generator via a transfer switch but I turn off all breakers to the house when testing so no load there. The genset is an Onan 5.5 HGJAE. L1 output at 120V is going to the transfer switch. L2 at 120Vis going to the outlet I am using for the TT. Bear in mind my Honda 3k has 0 issues running everything. Here are the results of the frequency tests over a 2 minute period: 115V @ 60hz with no load 101V @ 58.7hz once AC kicks in 100V @ 58.6hz 99.5 @ 58.6hz 99 @ 58.5hz At this point I shut it down. Is this possibly a governing issue as Kayteg1 had mentioned? I can find no info on adjusting in the owners manual.Re: Running AC from Generator 150 feet awayHi all. Yesterday I installed the new outlet much closer to the generator and had the same results. After about 2 minutes it crawled down from 112 volts to 96 volts while the AC was on. I decided to see what would happen running my Honda 3k off of the 100' 10/3 extension cord and it ran like a champ. This leads me to believe there has to be an issue with the genset itself. I just wanted to see if any of you might have any ideas about this outside of cabling as I can't really see that as an issue at this point.Re: Running AC from Generator 150 feet awayThanks a ton for everyone's input, I at least have some direction now. I am trying to sell my property so have decided not to go with heavier wire and conduit or a transformer but certainly great ideas that would probably fix the issue. I do have a Honda EU3000is but really want this to work so I can run off the 500 gallon propane tank and should be slightly cheaper. I tested the voltage at the outlet I am using which is about 40 feet from the generator and got 117 with no load and 111 shortly after the AC kicked in. The voltage at the camper was 102 this time but it was much cooler outside. I am going to see what happens if I install an outlet at a splice that is 8 feet from the generator. If this helps enough to make sense I will shorten the extension cord about 15-20 feet which should make the entire circuit about 120 (it's actually close to 175 feet right now). I will also check all connection points.Running AC from Generator 150 feet awayI have a TT with a 13,500 BTU Dometic AC and am struggling with finding a good way to power it. My off grid property has an Onan 5.5 KW propane generator for use when the solar system needs charged or additional power is needed. I tried to use a a 100' 10/3 extension cord plugged in before the transfer switch that feeds the house and nothing is drawing power in the house. This resulted in 115 volts when the AC compressor is not on but once it turns on it goes down to 99 volts after a couple of minutes making the fan run slower so I cut it off. There is a bit of additional solid copper from the generator to the outlet I am using of about 30' plus the 30 amp RV plug which is 25' if I remember right. My question is, is the voltage drop due to not a heavy enough gauge extension cord? If so, I can run some romex under the grass and install an outlet near the camper so what gauge would be recommended. My power draw is 11 amps when the AC is running plus another 2 for misc items. Thanks in advance.
