All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsGFI IssuesHave 5th wheel which had w/4-100AH 12v batteries & Zantrex 1800 inverter. Batteries barely lasted 2 days, low power warning night of second day. Inverter failed, I upgraded to w/4-135AH AGM deep cycle 12v batteries and had the dealer install a new Zantrex "Freedom HFS 2250 inverter charger. Brought trailer home last week, this weekend heard beeping, propane detector low voltage, couldn't even get a light to glow. The only things that were operational were the Propane detector, and the hard wired charger/inverter. Plugged into shore power, GFI plug 115v/15a. GfI tripped, reset and tried again GFI tripped again. Can charge the batteries using an external charger with out issue, GFI does not trip. I am able to connect the trailer to non-GFI circuit and charge the batteries through the charger/inverter. I am thinking I have some sort of short somewhere draining the batteries, which I need to get resolved. Any suggestions, recommendations, troubleshooting ideas... ThanksRe: sagging grey tankThanks for the support. Yes the problem is probably due to improper build. Discovered after extended stays at sites without sewer connections. Now I carry 2-5 Gal jugs & watch the handle. As soon as I seen any sign of the tank sagging I drain the tank. Dealer opened the bottom examined the tanks (4). All mounted identically, method of waste valve mounting is different on this tank. Dealer took pictures of all 4 tanks and is sending them to me. When I get the pictures I will send them & pictures of the bent handle with description of the problem to manufacturer and see what happens. Hopefully to the satisfaction of both of us.sagging grey tankhave 2013 Crusader 5th wheel, 32 foot. has 4 tanks, grey for bathroom, black, fresh water, and 2nd grey for galley. When galley gets close to 50% capacity it starts to sag and the valve handle binds against the hole in the chassis frame which the handle passes through. At full or almost full the screw on handle is bent at a 45 degree angle and is cracked where the handle is threaded onto the valve shaft. My only option is to break the handle off get a pair of long needle nose pliers and keep tugging on the barely accessible shaft of the valve until is starts to drain. When tank is empty the handle rises and is aligned again. I then have to grab the small threaded sleeve of the broken handle remove the threaded portion and screw on another handle. Dealer says the tank is supported identical to the other three and it is the way the valve is installed on that tank. There is no sagging/bending problems with the other tanks. Anyone else have this problem or know where I can find out more info about this problem? I can't be the only one.Propane - when is a fill a true fillOver the years (12) I have had my propane tanks filled using two methods to determine when the tank is full, by weight using a scale and the second filling until propane escapes from a bleeder valve. When I picked up the tanks after filling I noticed that when they were filled using the bleeder valve method the tanks were heavier & lasted longer. I know which filling method I prefer, but is there a correct method? I have never had any problems using the tanks filled by either method. Skeptics might doubt about the ability to feel the difference but over time you learn to notice differences visually and physically and although I have never weighted the tanks when filled by the bleeder method the weight feels about 2 pounds heavier. All I know they last longer.Re: Help. Please?I use a cpap. Take a look at the manfacturer's tag to see the power draw (watts). Mine said 400w so I bought a 600watt "true sine wave" inverter. It worked great. Some CPAP have a temperature setting on the humidity level. Reducing this setting reduces the demand on the battery(s). I found I can go 2-3 days without using the humidifier, it helps extend the time before you "have to plug in" some where. Hope this helps.scenic drives Northern CascadesI plan to be back in the area next year, Taking my mother-in-law touring for her 80th birthday. Went cross country 2012. As luck has it struck up a conversation the last day in the Northern Cascades NP. I was told about a car tour of three scenic loops off Rte 20 somewhere north near Concrete, WA. I was told the views were fantastic something not to be missed and well worth the drive. Has anyone heard/know of these scenic loops? Any help would be appreciated.Re: Universal Joints going bad or transfer case?probably talking out of my hat but many years ago had a dodge 150 power wagon pickup. had clunking, everything as fine until I brought it to a local 4x4 speed shop. it turned out the spline on the drive shaft was worn. They pulled the shaft cut off the spline welded on spline with heavier fingers, never had a problem after that. Just thought I would add my two cents to your problem. PS, Couldn't detect the problem due when the shaft was in the transfer case, only when it was dropped and the spline was visually checked. Should crazy, can only tell you what happened to me.Top 5 upgradesJust curious Have a 5th wheel, and do anything from 3 to 9 weeks on the road mostly national & state campgrounds. I upgraded my 5th from 1 battery to 4, added a 2000w inverter, Fantastic fan, looking at solar, & external fuel tank for the pickup. Wondering what others think are the top 5 upgrades they wouldn't/couldn't do without.Batteries - What do you useHave a 32' 5th wheel - the dealier looked at me as though I was crazy when I made him add batteries when I bought it, configured for (1)12v upgraded to (4)12v in all. He did it with 4 Exide dual purpose batteries. They're Ok for now. Looking down the road at adding solar and extended boondocking, full timing in about 2-3 years. Looking to change them out the batteries. thinking about options... just buy run of the mill deep cycle batteries and swap them out when necessary, or... Look for a true deep cycle batteries as high a capacity that will fit my current batteries boxes. Thinking about US or Trojan for the replacements What do you use?off season campingBased in NJ and as the weather gets chillier campgrounds begin to close up for the season, and by the end of Columbus Day almost all around me ant to the north have boarded up for winter hibernation. We would like to do the Boston/Salem area of MA. for Christmas and wondering if anyone knows of campgrounds open during that time. We don't need services just a place to stay for a few days. Does anyone have a system of finding places to stay during the off season in the colder climates?
