off season camping

Based in NJ and as the weather gets chillier campgrounds begin to close up for the season, and by the end of Columbus Day almost all around me ant to the north have boarded up for winter hibernation.

We would like to do the Boston/Salem area of MA. for Christmas and wondering if anyone knows of campgrounds open during that time. We don't need services just a place to stay for a few days.

Does anyone have a system of finding places to stay during the off season in the colder climates?
  • The search above seems to work but call around. Normandy Farms started closing for the winter last year, I think from Dec to March they are closed. None are too close to Salem but some are 60-90 minutes away.
  • Some of the Ma. state parks and RV parks in the Boston area are open through the winter, check ReserveAmerica.
  • Finally I feel like I can help....

I am from CT and my Wife is from MA. So if you want to stay at a campground near Boston Normandy Farm Campground it is.

They are open all year round with an indoor pool and hot tube. Super nice people and we always stay their when visiting the in-laws. We had my daughters first two birthdays there and they were great. Super clean and really friendly.
  • Some state parks stay open year round for hunting, winter activities, ice fishing. Hardy 1%ers are camping, And the bottom feeders are out there as well.

  • none of your state parks stay open?
we have a few provincial parks that stay open, as far north as algonquin park, along the Huron shoreline as well, and cypris lake national park on the bruce peninsula.

Call private campgrounds. Some do allow "off season" camping, especially without water connection but they may very well have electric available. I can't recall any right now, but I have talked to people who have done it.

Is your camper (what kind by the way?) setup for winter camping?
