All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsDead Onan GeneratorI have a 2004 Dutch Star 3810 with a 7500 Onan Generator. It wouldn't fire or buzz when I tried to start it. I took it to a generator repair facility and after being charged $900 to remove and diagnose it, I am told it will cost around $9,700 for parts to repair it or around $11,000 to replace it with a new one. This is way out of my range and I am at a loss as to what to do. I have serviced and exercised it regularly and it last ran in March. Does anyone know of a reputable place to look for a used, rebuilt one?Auxiliary brake systemThis topic has been moved to another forum. You can read it here: 30354910Auxiliary brake systemWhat are the pros and cons of a Brake Buddy Vantage system for a Dutch Star towing a 2013 Ford F150? Does anyone have experience with one?Re: AwningThanks to those who replied. Gives me somewhere to startAwningI have an 04 DSDP and my awning came unrolled while underway and the arms etc. are demolished. It is the small (48") bedroom awning. I have tried to locate a source to get a replacement to no avail. After 2 1/2 hours on hold to Dometic (A & E Systems) I was told rudely that model is discontinued and there are no replacements available. Does anyone know of a source for used RV parts such as this?Re: Gas prices.Had a trip planned this summer of about 6,000 miles but will probably have to cancel. Diesel is already about $5.50 gal in CA and going up 10 or 15 cents per gallon every day. By June, when we had planned to leave, I wouldn't be surprised if it's close to $7 per gal. My SS check won't stretch that far. SadRe: Radial Tire Valve Core FailuresI had a similar experience with Les Schwab. If they used beads to balance the tires, there are special valve cores which must be used. I was stuck at a roadside stop because I couldn't get air in one of the tires and rescued by a trucker who was familiar with the problem. I went to a shop that specialized in truck tires and had all tbe valve cores changed. If the original cores are used, beads get inside the core and it won't retract so the air escapes. Can't extend trayCan anyone give me info on how to extend the front tray (to service generator) on an '04 Dutch Star DP? I released the 2 latches in the extreme front and pulled the release on the left side and it won't budge. Is there another release? I called Newmar's customer service dept., what a joke! They linked me to something called Newgle which you have to join, password, etc. I have been waiting for 5 days now to get a reply from them, guess it got lost in cyberspace. It hasn't been too long that you could call Newmar and talk to a real person who had knowledge of whatever problem you had. Guess those days are sadly over.Re: Hankook tires for DPReplaced my Michelins with Hankook several years ago and am very pleased with their performance. One lesson I learned which might help someone else: Les Schwaab? installed my tires and used beads for balancing. After I left on an extended trip cross country, I checked the air pressure in one of the tires and when I finished I could not stop the air from escaping. To make a long story short, I went to a truck tire shop and found out that when beads are used for balancing, there is a special valve stem which must be used, otherwise the beads get into the valve core and it will not seal. I called Schwaab later to complain but didn't get any help. I would think that as many tires as they sell that would know of this issue. This has nothing to do with the brand of tire, just poor business practice.Re: 3rd Issue of RV MagazineI agree. I am 81 years old and already know how to build a fire and I don't think I will be doing calistentics outside my RV. Magazine is not relevant to my interests.
