The early 440-3 block, prior to 1974, is much stronger and makes a much better engine. Do an extensive research on the 440 before investing time and money on a late 440 block. JTRe: 1993 Newmar DP. What weight of fluid??Dexron II or III. I get mine from Chevron "MD-3"Re: Air pressure is gone, stuck in a Monaco DynastyMEXICANPILOTO13. I am sorry that I did not make myself clear in my previous post. The park brake/service brake chamber is mounted on the rear axle. The design of the park brake/service brake system is such that they work in concert with each other. This means that (IF YOU HAVE A WEAK OR INEFECTIVE PARK BRAKES YOU ALSO HAVE WEAK OR INEFECTIVE SERVICE BRAKES (REGULAR BRAKES) ON THAT AXLE. Please check the park brake system before you travel. JTRe: Air pressure is gone, stuck in a Monaco DynastyNot to beat this to death, but you still have the problem that the spring brake did not apply. The rear brakes may be out of adjustment. A simple spring brake test is to check if the mh will move with the spring brake applied. With normal air pressure; On a level surface apply the service brake (brake pedal) then apply the spring brake (pull out the park brake handle), place the transmission in gear, release the brake pedal, apply a small amount of power. THE MH MUST NOT MOVE if it does the brake adjusters need adjusting. Adjusting of the brake slack adjusters is easily done and should be a part of you routine brake check as is the park brake check. Drive safe and keep the blue side up. JTRe: Air pressure is gone, stuck in a Monaco DynastyI agree with MPIRCE, most air brake rv drivers do not know how the system works, and are an accident waiting to happen. The only saving grace is that the air brake system is very reliable. JWMII, the original post stated that he had 10 PSI and could not set the spring (park) brake, and had to chock the wheel. He did not know that the spring (park) brake automatically starts to apply at 40 PSI. The park brake valve is designed to release air and apply the spring brake at or below 40 PSI. I am concerned that while he now has air pressure the park brake system is very weak or nonfunctional. JTRe: Battery explosionYou posted that the battery was a deep cycle battery, I assume that it is a house battery. The real question is, why would a house battery explode when starting the engine? The house battery is not used to start the engine unless the boost switch is used. You may have additional problems. JTpoor customer serviceReciently I ordered online a motorhome part, ATS, from "rvandvansurplus.com" dba as surplus on line. When I placed the order I received an email stating that the part would ship in 1 to 3 days and that I would be notified when shipped. After 5 days with no notification I emailed them asking about the status of the order. No reply. After 8 days I called them, but the service agent could not tell me if the unit had shipped, but assured me the the owner would call me later that day. No call. The next day I called and after holding for several minutes I talked with the owner. He told me that the item was not in stock and that he would probably receive it in 4 days. When I asked him why he did not at least email me that information, he told me that he was very busy and did not have time. I cancelled the order, telling him that I would never do business with him or his company. He became beligerant and swore at me. I ordered the item from another company that had it in stock and shipped it the same day. JTRe: need engine service on Class A around Wichita KS areaYes. Full time = on whenever the engine is running. To avoid vapor lock, fuel starvation, use all the time. JTRe: need engine service on Class A around Wichita KS areaThe early motorhomes with the Dodge 360 and 440 had problems with the fuel delivery system. The mechanical pump can not handle the low quality fuel now being produced allowing the engine to vapor lock. The best solution is install a full time electric pump as close to the tank as possible, in addition to checking the entire fuel system as JimM68 stated.Re: Air brakesTo adjust all four slack adjusters on a Spartan chassis the air pressure must be normal, the PARKBRAKE MUST BE OFF and the brakes FULLY applied 3 to 5 times. This is best done with the motorhome on a level surface , so no rolling, motorhome in neutral, engine running to maintain normal air pressure. It can be done with the coach slowly moving but the coach will stop abruptly.
