One parent will need to sit between the 2 kids in the back seat to maintain the peace with the 3rd kid in the front. Versus a Class C where everyone can have their own space. Also if you are not skilled in backing a trailer you may be in big trouble in a tight spot. A smaller Class C might be maneuverable enough you won't need to rent a car.Re: Storing tools for the RVHaving been a mechanic while in college taught me only a very basic set of tools are needed unless you are full timing. As others do I carry very basic tools in the 2nd step storage. RV people seem to carry 10x the tools needed to rebuild an engine. If the problem isn't mechanical it can wait until I get home although I do carry a small roll of Eternabond. Get roadside assistance coverage.Re: Tire question?I agree, they must be talking about having driven some distance on a flat. It would make sense the additional weight at least on the adjacent tire would be increased. The more weight the higher the heat buildup in the tire. Heat can cause tire damage as anyone who has lived in areas where the temp exceeds 105 on a regular basis can tell you. I can't see why the 2 tires on the other side would be affected that much.Re: Proper Protocol for “Complimentary Roof Inspection” Halmfamily wrote: But some 4" Eternabond tape and seal over all of your joints and sealant. Follow the directions and you won't have to worry about failed sealant again. I did this to both of our FW's and in five years haven't had to touch it. X3. I covered every roof seam including the trim on all four sides and around all the vents and AC. I'll never need to caulk the roof again. But be warned this could affect your trade in value. It should increase the value but a dealer doesn't want to sell an RV where he can't sell a re-caulk job every 3 years.Re: Camping seasonHere in the middle of MS the real camping season is reversed from mid Sept to June 1. There are heavy rains 3-4 days every week but it only snows every 3-4 years with totals of an inch or less. No ice like they have farther south. Most summers it never breaks 100 but the humidity is brutal at 80-100% with no breeze. So water vapor instantly condenses on your cool air conditioned skin like a cold beer can. Miserable. Here the AC runs 24/7 from mid April to mid October with summer time lows in the 80's. But there are lots of summer days when the temperature is in the mid 80's so we can camp year round most years.Re: Best top coat/wax for RV'sI've used Blue Coral wash/wax concentrate for 20 years on all my vehicles including my RV. I apply twice a year on my 22 yr old gelcoat and it keeps a bright shine for 6 months. Even my decals still look like new. Just apply like soap then rinse off before it dries. $4.87 for 100 oz of concentrate. Been around a long time and there is a reason why it's still a best seller. I know all the "purists" will say television does belong at the campgrounds. But to each their own and the DW and I must be the "eaches". So sorry everyone, after 60 years of camping TV is a big deal to us. We watch more TV at night when camping than we do at home. We record movies we haven't seen on a USB flash drive and the Micca Speck plays them back through the TV. The TV will also play the flash drive but is pretty primitive. I tore out the worthless dinette and installed a couple of recliners across from the TV. Our RV living room is now a home theater and we love it.Re: Short trip opinionIf you are not experienced backing a trailer it can be stressful and embarrassing. I've owned several trailers and I'm good at backing them up but I spent a lot of time in a big empty parking lot getting the experience. Also make sure a gas station or restaurant has a big enough parking lot. If you are towing a 30' trailer with a 20' truck you can get in big trouble with your combined 50' length.Re: What's the one thing that you have but hardly EVER use?For us in the South the propane furnace. We use it maybe twice per year and then only for a quick 5 minute warmup. A 110 volt electric heater keeps us warm down to the low 30's. We use propane for frying a couple of eggs in the morning but charcoal at lunch and dinner. So the propane tank is the 2nd least used.Re: XC Trip with 12yo - TT or PUP? WWYD?I've had popups for many years. I quickly learned to not go camping if rain was predicted. It is a tent and even if rain doesn't get blown inside by the wind you can't put it up wet the next morning or it will mildew in warm weather. I had a brand new one really torn up by an unpredicted sustained high wind and rain overnight. The canvas is like a big sail and all the rocking was scary enough to keep us awake. We were wet and miserable. The dealer was kind enough to give me a good deal on replacement canvas but the support poles were floppy from then on. I still own one and like camping in a pup but personally I wouldn't consider an extended trip in one. I've also camped in just a pickup camper shell with the wife and 2 kids when they were young. Wasn't that bad just crowded. Made a twin size bed that fit sideways over the bed rails. The kids slept underneath that which left room in the back for our gear, even a port-a-potty with privacy curtains for #1 use at night. Rainproof, lockable, and no hitching or setup time, which can really get old quick if you're not staying long in one spot. I like the "plug and play" experience you get with a pickup camper or motorhome. Plus no backing up a trailer which requires some skill if you get blocked in at a gas station or fast food joint.
