All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: SoCal to East Coast Fall ColorsI'm considering this same trip. For those who've made the run from California, I'm interested in routes across the country. The only fixed point for us is Denver as we have grandkids there. I don't like to be on the road more than two consecutive days without stopping somewhere for at least 4-5 days so I'm thinking we'll leave SoCal early August. Any recommendations across the country for places to see would be appreciated. Given the seasons, I'd expect northern route eastbound and Southern coming back with maybe boundary waters, Nashville, Ozarks. I'm sure there's alot to see and an earlier departure is certainly an option.Re: Durango campground?I went ahead and booked a riverfront site at the KOA. I'll contact them May 1 when they open for the season to confirm that we'll fit. According to the fly shop in Durango, the river north of town is all private so staying at a riverfront park will be nice. Busskipper, Priest Gulch looks really nice. Maybe next year.Re: Durango campground? For those who have been there, can the river front back-in spaces accommodate a 36' fifth wheel with 3 slides? The campground isn't open until May 1 so I can't ask them. The photo on the website shows what appears to be a low tree branch so I'm a bit concerned. I'd love to have the river out my back window.Re: Durango campground?I love Ouray. We were there last year but the water was very low and gray from ash runoff. I'm pulling a 36' fifth wheel so I'll pass on that pass. Haven't been to Durango for 3 or 4 years.Durango campground? We're planning on spending a week in Durango in August on our way to Denver. I'd like to do some fly fishing. The Durango North/Riverside KOA looks like it's right on the Animas. It would be great to fish from the campground. Has anyone stayed there, done that? Other suggestions are certainly welcome.Re: CG recommendations / Northern CaliforniaI've never camped in that area but check out RVParky. They show a number of campgrounds close-by. I use the android app but I think they have a website too. The closest I've stayed is the Napa fairgrounds which is a small but nice campground (no water though).Re: Rest Stop, east San Francisco Bay areaThanks for the suggestions. I get overwhelmed in the Oakland traffic and never sure where to get off without getting trapped. Just looking for a stretch and bathroom break.Rest Stop, east San Francisco Bay areaI'm heading from Morro Bay to the Sonoma area and need a place to pull off for a break while getting around the San Francisco area. I'll be making a stop at the Wal-Mart in Salinas and will need one more break before we reach our destination. Depending on traffic we'll either go up 880 through Oakland or 680 through Walnut Creek. I don't see any rest stops, Wal-Mart, or Camping World (my usual stops) on either route. I'm a long bed crew cab F250 with a 36' fifth wheel so over 50' parking space needed. Thanks.Re: Fly Fishing and RV Parks - Where in the Southwest? There are several RV parks in Bishop. We like Highlands, directly across the street from Sierra Trout Magnet Fly Shop. You'll be 20-30 minutes from the upper elevations of Bishop Creek. Or if you are good with dry camping, there are a number of campgrounds right on the creek. Also drift boat guides can take you out on the Owens River. There's a wild trout catch and release section of the Owens just minutes north of town but flowing much too fast to wade this year.Re: Fly Fishing and RV Parks - Where in the Southwest?Last week I was in the Eastern Sierra on Bishop Creek, about 8,000'. Fall colors are starting to turn. Beautiful fly fishing country.
