I have the solid flap that goes all the way across the back and I have heard people take these off when traveling to Alaska, as they kick up more rocks on uneven roads that the prevent. When I went to Alaska I ended up cutting about 4 ins off my rear flaps because they dragged and kicked up stones on dirt roads. I also made a Protect a tow type covering along with screens over the headlights and radiator and a windshield cover for the tow car. The only thing that I found really helpful was the 4 in off the mud flap and the windshield cover. The protect a tow was a pain to put on, remove and store especially when it rained and was covered with mud, it was not needed on the paved road. The tow car windshield cover was easy to install and remove and did save my wind shield from stone thrown up by passing trucks. Correct you will not want a full low hanging mudflap for Alaska. We went in 2015 and were very happy with our GMC protected by Roadmaster Guardian Rock Guard with a piece of naugahyde material across the windshield tucked into the doors & wipers.Re: Need any and all ideas for things to see and do in MichiganSome great ideas have been suggested. Missing is one of the biggest tourist draws in SW Michigan. The Craft beer industry. The communities from Kalamazoo to Grand Rapids have become hot beds for the craft beer industry which was started in the area abut 30 years ago by Larry Bell in Kalamazoo. More information about "Pure Michigan" can be found at www.michigan.orgRe: Newmar and TiffinBoth brands have a reputation of building quality motorhomes. Both have advantages. Pick the model, FLOORPLAN & price that works best for you. If used ask for service records.Re: RAM 2500 6.4 Hemi 3.73 gears, Looking for OpinionsYou should be just fine with any 3/4 ton (2500 type) towing only 7250 lbs max travel trailer with 3.73 gears. My wife has a 09 Chevy 2500 CC 4x4 3.73 with a primary use of towing a horse trailer about your weight or sometimes more. We bought the truck new & never have thought we could have used a lower gear. I was not aware any Ford F250 trucks had engine/cylinder deactivation technology.Re: Anyone towing Ford 150 with 43 ft Tweeter wrote: We are about to start full timing & just purchased a 42 ft pusher & looking at a Ford 150 to flat tow. We will have a Remco lube pump installed. Please share your thoughts and experiences pulling this size vehicle. I would appreciate any advice you can share. Thank you for your comments??. The F150 needs to be 4WD to be towable with the above posted directionsRe: Truck stop or Cummings shop for filter and oil change? et2 wrote: We have a Bridgeway Cummins shop by us. I've been going there for years. Really great very professional guys. I trust them and their work is top notch. They even go as far to suggest alternatives to the standard maintenance schedule as shown in the owners manual which wouldn't compromise the warranty and save some money. X2 !Re: Rust Underneath on ChassisNothing to worry about unless you winter travel here in the rust belt. Spent some time this year helping friends look for used MH and we saw some real rusty stuff here in the midwest. Rusty basement compartment frames, windshield frames & Chassis frame extensions are probably the biggest early problem areas. All quite expensive fixes.MH fire at NSRA eventA 2002(?) Monaco Diplomat burned last Thursday night in the campground for the NSRA (National Street Rod Assoc) Northern Nationals in Kalamazoo Michigan. I was told the owners dog woke them up and everyone escaped safely. Looked to me like fridge fire & I heard the owners said two recalls had been performed. No coverage by local newspaper, so farRe: What insurance companies cover high value motor homes? Executive wrote: As with any insurance company, time changes everything. Full timer insurance also contains a "homeowner liability" contract so it's more expensive. Like MrMark, we carry large coverage amounts. However, I carry a $1k collision and $500 comp. deductibles. Also, when your rig reaches the magical 10 year mark, replacement coverage goes away and it becomes an agreed upon replacement amount, negotiated between you and the carrier...Dennis Good info Dennis, I would like to emphasize get the agreed upon value in writing and be aware many insurance companies like to revalue at the time of a loss.
