Lighter weight and you dont use floor space with beds. You should look at the 23ikss (Shamrock or Roo...both made by Forest River) or the 233S (Shamrock or Roo...but has 3 queen beds and a dinette and couch that fold down)Re: Too much trailer for my TV? ficksters wrote: tkoden wrote: ficksters wrote: tkoden wrote: Dog Folks wrote: Use a premium hitch with built in sway control to keep the tail form wagging the dog. (Trailer wagging the TV) You won't regret it. I definitely plan on putting out some serious money on a hitch and brake controller. Any recommendations? How much you looking to spend on the hitch/brake controller? I figure a prodigy controller is about $140 with harness and probably around $500 for a hitch. I would say spend the extra couple hundred bucks and get the Equalizer 4 Point Sway WDH that is rated at 12000#. It should be around 6-700 I am guessing. I worked mine in with the deal on my trailer. If your Expy doesnt have integrated Brake Controller I would recommend the Tekonsha P3. I opted for the cheaper Primus and will be upgrading to the Tekonsha. (around $150) The reason I ask, is because you can spend 2-3K on a hensley arrow or ProPride hitch.Re: Too much trailer for my TV? tkoden wrote: ficksters wrote: tkoden wrote: Dog Folks wrote: Use a premium hitch with built in sway control to keep the tail form wagging the dog. They are there to sell trailers. The WDH does not change your GCVWR. It simply transfers weight off the rear axle to the front axle of the car (increases the weight on the Front GAWR and Decreases the weight on the Rear GAWR) and puts some weight on the trailer axle. My advice is to load it with the people, pets and items you will take to go camping and head to the scale as it doesnt lie. Do 2 measurements: First: Front Wheel of the truck on the first scale, with the rear wheels on the second scale, and trailer on the 3rd/4th scale (at Pilot CAT Scales this is $10) and then do the 2nd weight: Same as the first but unhitch the trailer. and get the reweigh ($2 at said pilot truck stop) Take a look at several numbers: GCVWR, GVWR, GAWR, and Tow Rating. You do not want to exceed GAWR at all. 80-90% of the tow rating, and GCVWR and GVWR should leave 10% for cushion. I will not say yes or no, because you are the one pulling it and paying for the engine/transmission/brakes/tires etc and stress of pulling something too big.Re: Too much trailer for my TV?What is your GCWR? What is your GVWR? Curb Weight of your Expedition? How many people will be going with you (Include Scruffy if he goes)? How much gear will you put in the Expedition (not trailer)? GFAWR? GRAWR? Your payload is 1745# from what I could find online and your weight of the expedition is 6155#. However, your towing capacity is 8750#. (not as much with 4X4) With those other weights you can determine safe towing weights.Re: Rant! HOA "storing" issues.Thankfully we did not buy in a neighborhood that has a HOA. HOWEVER, the city of Fort Worth has code compliance language that I had to interpret between RV, Large RV, and Oversized RV. In the first part of the ordinance it was clearly defined as to what those definitions were. I then bought an RV that I could store in my driveway based on the ordinance. I would say take a look and see if they have defined "storing" as part of the agreement. If they have not, I think you have a leg to stand on, and if they have, well then you have your answer.Re: Dealer Negotiation on HTTThanks to this forum, the dealer dropped almost $2K off the price and upgraded the wdh i wanted...i used the rv direct rvw pricing to negotiate (RV Direct was 19500 + WDH + Fuel to pick it up +TTL = 22K)(RVW 20500 + WDH + FUEL + TTL = 23K) (MY DEAL $22.5K out the door) The sales guy and i went back several times before he agreed to the price.Re: Dealer Negotiation on HTTI appreciate both responses, and both are good ideas and I can combine them. When I put the options on RVW it was $1,400 cheaper than the price he gave me. I will call/email him and tell him I want it at that price.... Keep the suggestions coming
