First-time solar panel user
Hi everyone! We ordered the optional 160-watt solar panel for our 2015 Leisure Travel Van Unity 24MB. We'll get the unit next Monday, after a 7-month wait. :B We've never had solar power before. The rig comes with dual 6-volt coach batteries, a converter-power c/w battery charger (55 amps) and a 600-watt inverter. The question, if it can be this easily answered: what difference will this solar panel make in our everyday functioning? Assuming we have reasonable daily sun (our winter base is Arizona), what will the panel enable us to do that we couldn't otherwise do? Hope this isn't too stupid a question :) I'm good at some things, but electrical things aren't among them! Don't forget about the absolute need for Canadians to purchase travel insurance while in the US. We're picking up our 2015 Leisure Travel Van Unity 24MB (on a Sprinter chassis) in October and will be traveling through Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, etc. Hot country! :C Any recommendations for an outside cover? Camping World sells a Class C cover that fits Sprinters 2007-2013, but the 2015 model may require something different. That's an excellent question: what is being done to prevent another similar situation? I know things sometimes don't work the way they're supposed to, but that's scary! We have to wait until Oct. for the 2015 as we want a new unit and 2014s are sold out of dealers' inventories. More importantly, the 2015 has several new standard and optional features not available on previous models, such as a dedicated freezer above the frig. Before, there was only a removable divider creating freezer space. As we'll be snowbirding in this rig for approximately 5 months, we wanted a better and more permanent freezer configuration.
