You can read it here: 286868742015 Northstar Liberty inverter or refrigerator issuesHello all. I purchased a new Northstar Liberty camper this past summer and have noticed an issue whenever I plug into shore power. I only do this at home in order to try charging the battery and cooling the 3 way refrigerator before leaving on a trip. My issue is whenever plugged into shore power and starting the reefer, the gfci pops and all power is shut down. I unplug the 12v cable to the truck harness prior to plugging into 120v but this still happens. This is driving me nuts. I should mention this is my first camper, so I am not 100% certain I am doing this correctly. However I do have some mechanical training and do not believe I am the one causing the problem. I have tried plugging into different outlets at my house to no avail. My house was built in 2001 and the wiring has never been tampered with, so I don't believe it has anything to do with this. I am trying to run off a garage circuit, and I think it is a 20 amp circuit instead of 15 amps. If anyone has any ideas or ways to test the gfci and/or inverter I'd love to hear them. The dealer is about 1.5 hours from here one way and I don't want to head down the hill unless I need to. Like I said, it may just be me but I think it is either the reefer or inverter. The reefer works fine in 12v and lpg. Thanks for any help, MikeRe: Table leg conversion- Best everI really like the Lagun table setup in my 2015 Northstar Liberty. Lots of adjustability and seems pretty sturdy.Thoughts on Northstar Liberty truck camperAnyone have thoughts or experience with a Northstar Liberty truck camper. It seems like a well laid out design with an acceptable amount of storage for its size. What are your thoughts? Shadow HunterRe: Help - Lance 7 pin connectorThank you all for the help. I am concerned about getting a good connection with the factory connector since it is packed with dirt. I guess I could clean it and see what type of resistance there is, plus use some dielectric grease? Now I am off to find a tie down system from a local business. MikeHelp - Lance 7 pin connectorI am finally looking at purchasing my first truck camper. In order to make sure I like truck camping I decided to purchase a used one instead of a brand new one....I can always upgrade in a year or two and not lose much. I am looking at a 1997 Lance Squire Lite 165 that is in good condition and I have some questions about the 7 pin connector. 1.) The 7 pin connector / pigtail is at the front of the Lance camper. Is this normal? Do I need to have a dealer install wiring to the front of the truck bed? Or can I run the pigtail all the way back to the trailer plug at the hitch? I know the longer the cable is, the more resistance but the camper only contains one battery and I could make sure the wiring was sufficiently sized. 2.) Does Lance even make these connectors anymore? I noticed dirt is packed in the connector, and my guess is a wasp or something built a nest inside. I would like to cut the old one off and replace it with a new one. Is this possible? Also, is this a proprietary Lance plug, or can I get one of these at any RV store? 3.) Does anyone have a wiring diagram for this particular connector? Thank you for any assistance or advice you guys can provide. I am meeting with the owner if a couple days to test out the appliances and possibly make the purchase. -MikeReal world Northstar Laredo weightTo those that own a Northstar Laredo, have you ever determined the actual weight of the camper? Thanks in advance.Heki skylight and 12v reefer(Northstar Campers specifically)Well I've been speaking with a sales rep for Northstar Campers and am leaning towards a Laredo SC. I am likely ordering one custom from the factory to have the options that I want. I am up in the air about two options at the moment. What are your thoughts on the Heki skylight? Are there different models that the various camper manufacturers use? I've heard answers that are the polar opposite of each other. I am greatly concerned about the "melting" or "warping" comments and that is making me choose to not have one installed. I've also heard that it really heats up the interior of the camper if the screen is left open to alleviate the warping issue. Anyone have comments regarding their camper with a Heki? I would also like to have a 12v reefer installed. It is the Dometic CR110. This one operates on electric power only, not LP. Does anyone here use these types of reefers, or mainly the 3 way? My understanding is a compressor reefer is more efficient than an absorption reefer, and I don't have to worry about leveling the camper exactly right for the three way propane reefer to work. After looking around the internet I cannot find any literature explaining whether the reefer would work when hooked to shore power (at home). I would guess there is a converter (inverter?) that would allow the reefer to work when plugged into 110 or 220 volts? If I am off base please let me know. Thanks, MikeCan my garage roof (truss system) hold a camper shell?I would like to set up a pulley system in my garage to lift my camper shell from my pickup truck. My shell weighs approx. 200 lbs. Problem is, my home uses trusses instead of conventional framing for the roof. I've heard conflicting answers on whether a truss system would be damaged while supporting a camper shell. My basic design would be a two seperate 2x10's (spaced several feet apart for the front and rear of the shell) layed perpendicular across several trusses in the attic. Attached to this would be four threaded rods that would go through the sheetrock on the garage ceiling. The threaded stock would again go through a similar 2x10 setup pressed against the sheetrock and held in place with washers and nuts on both ends. So, in essence, the 2x10's would be sandwiching the trusses from above and below to spread the load. I would then attach some sort of pulley system into the 2x10's for a solid anchor point. Any comments or concerns with hanging a camper shell from a truss roof system? I think it is doable but I definitely do not want to cause any damage to my home. I would like to keep my camper shell stored on the pulley system while I travel with my Northstar truck camper, but if this idea is questionable I would at least like to use the truss system to lift the shell off before lowering it down onto a cart for storage elsewhere. Thanks for your answers, Shadow HunterRe: Northstar CampersThanks guys for the replies. Realter - your comment re: bathroom and entry door size made me chuckle. I now remember looking at the specs and seeing the Laredo SC and Arrow 8.5 both had 26" wide doors; the Adventurer did not. Now that you jarred my memory, I would think the wider entry door would be more handy / useful for both loading items and myself. Whizbang - thanks for your reply. You are absolutely right about the extra 700 lbs base weight being too heavy for our application. But, I think you may have looked at the weight specs for the Arrow 8.5 "U" model? That one is most definitely 700 lbs more. I am interested in the plain-jane Arrow 8.5 model (without the "U"). The specs for this one is right in line with the others at 1940 lbs. As a side note, IMO, Northstar did their website right when they included both the weight and prices for each individual option over and above the standard base weight. I think the only other camper company that has done that is the ALP manufacturers. Anyone else have any suggestions? It is quite an investment for us so I want to make sure we get everything right this time. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.
