All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: Stranded Made a trip last year where at least 25% of the time, I had no cell service. Was on state and federal hi ways the entire time. My provider is one on the nations largest carriers. None of the RSA carriers are worth anything if they can't be contacted. Might make a case for having a starlink connection if you travel such areas. I had good luck with an RSA on that same trip. our luck held out and we were able to get someone out on Labor Day to change a tire. However, I ended up doing it myself as the representative we attempted to communicate with had such broken English skills at best. After 45 min on the phone with him, I still wasn't sure if someone was coming or not. And again, my luck held up and we were able to get the rig far enough off the hiway to change the tire in relative safety. I signed the paperwork so the guy they sent out got paid. I was done by the time he got there. I too believe that RSA's are of limited value. Mine covers all our vehicles and I keep it cuz I don't want my wife changing a tire on the edge of the freeway, even though she is certainly capable. For that reason alone I will continue to pay for it. Safe travels Re: Preventing camper issue I note in the Amazon ad that there are 2 breakers. Shouldn't one per panel do the job? I don't know if the OP has a single panel or multiple panels for 100w. I too am new to RV solar systems, but have a fair understanding elect. Re: Introduce Yourself! I would guess you are south of the snow belt. Unfortunately, our RV has been parked in its garage till about March. I think every new RV owners goal is to get out there a couple of times or 2 -3 weeks a month, but it rarely works out that way. That you guys are getting out there is spectacular. Hope you do get out there and get the most out of your RV and prove me wrong. ๐ Re: Introduce Yourself! Tracy, I wish you and your husband the best with your new to you Class C. Certainly not trying to take any wind out of your sails, But I can tell you from experience that a "gifted" 15 yr old RV can quickly turn into a money pit. A lot may depend on where and how it was stored, when it was last run, age of tires, roof integrity and general chassis and structure maintenance. Unless you have more than just basic mechanical, electrical and plumbing skills, I'd have a professional assess your RV. Under their advisement, I'd decide whether its worth putting some $$ intro it, or get rid of it. I happen to have skills in all the areas I listed above, and when I took on a gifted motor home, the parts and hours I put into it to make it useable was to a point where I was kicking myself for taking on the project. That being said, I hope yours is in tip, top shape and you get many years of enjoyment out of it. Re: Wheel bearing repacking I believe that maintenance should be based on miles traveled as well as time. If you are putting 10,000 miles on a year it's likely you need to repack. That being said, if you roll with about the maximum weight your axles will carry, more often may be necessary. Sadly, while I was researching the purchase of my current TT, I found many trailers being sold that barely had enough axle under them carry them empty. Re: Wheel bearing repacking I did exactly that, had the dealer check and provide any maintenance needed as a condition of sale. Re: Furrion camera system junk. The display is way to dim and Furrion says tough s__t! Same issues here. Better than nothing, but certainly not worth the price. Seems bright enough when backing into a spot, but as far as using it as a rear view camera going down the road, saying it's poor is being generous. Re: Hey y'all, I'm new to Good Sam. I too would disconnect for backing for backing over dips or tighter turns. I have read my weight distribution hitch owners manual from cover to cover, nowhere does it mention or recommend disconnecting the torsion bars when backing. The system just makes a bunch of racket when backing which indicates stress. I donโt think it hurts a thing to take the few minutes it takes to disconnect them. Re: Have TTs gotten any better? Iโm with the rest on this issue. The correct set up is of upmost importance. Re: Help after going to CAT Scales with Weight Distribution Got it thanks, Had a senior moment there. ๐
