To pick up a new to me Vegas 24.1. Super excited to start this new adventure. Driving it back up I 95 to NJ. Coming back up over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge to the Cape May /Lewes ferry. Plan to stay at Savannas Recreaction park in Fort Pierce, Camp Pedro South of the border and Cherrystone Family Campground. I will have a friend with me who has worked in campgrounds and RV center. He will be helping me out. Any comments or suggestions for this trip home?Re: Used motorhome, interested in A or CI would actually love to be able to buy a used Thor Axis/Vegas 24.1 if one comes available in my price range at the end of the summer bRe: Used motorhome, interested in A or C 2gypsies wrote: Take a look at this 2008 Phoenix Cruiser with 21,622 miles for $34,000 https://www.pplmotorhomes.com/used-rvs-for-sale/mini-motorhome/2008-phoenix-cruiser_rv-37435 Thanks, that's a good one. It’s totally subjective and if you can do your due diligence you can find an “old” (RV, vehicle, washing machine, etc) that will give about the same reliability as new for much less $, or it might be a pile of ____ that was ride hard and put up wet. If not willing or knowledgeable enough to really look at a particular purchase then new or near new is a safer decision. IMO that’s why private party purchases are “safer” with used things. Dealers are all used car salesman and every rig out there is a cream puff driven by a little old lady on Sunday. Go look at a rig at someone’s house and you can get a good idea how they maintained and cared for it. You’re judging the owner almost as much as the vehicle. ThanksRe: Used motorhome, interested in A or CGood morning everyone. Went to the AC RV show this weekend. Saw some very nice new models and was able to get a good feel of the different sizes. Since I am looking for a used MH I looked at prices to gauge what a used model would cost. It is correct most of the sprinter models have a low carrying capacity. At the moment I am focusing on 3 models 24'-26' range. Phoenix Cruiser, Gulf Stream BT Cruiser, both Class C and the Class A Thor Axis/Vegas 24.1. This is the model I rented when they came out in 2014. That would be the biggest at 26'. I've seen some already for under 50k. The Phoenix and BT cruisers I've seen on RVTrader and rv.net can be as old as 2002-2003. So how old is too old? Some have high mileage some low. These are Fords E-350 or 450, not sprinters. I am looking to buy in the fall so I have time for more to come on the market. Since it was asked by another post, I do not plan to tow a car, I'll use Uber, Lyft, rentals, shuttles and such.Re: Used motorhome, interested in A or CThis is great information. I didn't realize that you could go over the weight limit with a MH, I knew you could with tow limits with a TT. As I said I am single and retired so I can up and go whenever for however long I want. I figure on trips to start maybe a week or two up and down the east coast. When I decide to go cross country I will make longer trips. I don't plan to tow a vehicle, will rely on Uber, Lyft, shuttles and renting. I'm thinking about a motor scooter about 200cc to get around as well. I rented a Thor Axis when they first came out and liked it. I had some friends with me so we were 5 adults and all slept comfortably so I am more focused on the 24'-26' range. I liked the slide it had. Gave more space in the living area as opposed to the bedroom area. The sprinters are lower on my list of options because of the price and being a diesel. A used MH under $50K up to a 2016 is what I am researching. I will now take a look at some I was interested in and focus on the cargo weight, good tip.Used motorhome, interested in A or CBack again with more questions. Actually I've changed my mind again. Originally rented a 2014 Axis a couple of years back and liked it, but out of my price range. I thought a small TT would be good, so I researched all about towing a TT. Now I am back to a motorhome. I think that would suit me better. I am looking used with a top budget of $50,000. Class A,Axis/Vegas or something else in that size range, 30' tops ( more like 25'-28'). There are others on my radar, BT Cruisers, Phoenix Cruisers, Forest River FR3, and a few others made on the Mercedes Benz sprinter a diesel. Is there an advantage/disadvantage of the diesel sprinter over the gas models? I am concerned when looking at used models that they were traded in due to manufacturing or engine issues. How much of a concern is high mileage on some used units? Since I am single this size MH might seem more than I need but I am planning on my niece and nephews and brothers being able to join me when they are free, as well as friends. I've looked at RVTrader and RVT and am going to the AC RV show this weekend. Any information/opinions on buying a used MH will be appreciated.Re: Hitch weight TomG2 wrote: Capeteacher wrote: Thanks for the boost of confidence. I am trying to digest the information 1 piece at a time until I understand it then try putting it all together. I still don't plan on buying till next year. I may be able to get to the Hersey RV show in PA in Sept, which is a big show, to see the trailers in person..I've narrowed my search down to so far. Lance 1575, length 20', GVWR 3700, hitch 225 Gulf Stream Vintage, length 20', GVWR 3900, hitch 290 Rock wood Geo-Pro 19FSB, length 20', GVWR 3800, hitch 378 K-Z Escape Mini M181SS, length 20'11", GVWR 3500, hitch 310 Flagstaff Micro-lite 19FSB, length 20'4", GVWR 3942, hitch 442 Any comments or suggestions? One comment: If you read the previous comments you will notice that most people insist on a tongue weight in excess of 10% of the GVWR. Throw those out that don't meet this criteria. I only see one remaining. The manufacturers are either understating their tongue weight or don't care about how they tow. I would eliminate them for either reason. Ok so I've done the math as suggested for hitch weight/GVWR Lance 1575, 6% Vintage, 17RWD 7.3% Geo-pro 19FSB, 10% Escape Mini M181SS, 8% Flagstaff Micro-lite 19FSB, 11.2 Think I did it right. Now the question still, is the hitch weight before or after propane and batteries. Obviously this is before the WD hitch and anything else loaded into the trailer. As the manufactures say these are average weights depending on what's in the trailer.Re: Hitch weight OldShu wrote: TW of our 1475 (Dry TW 250) with similar storage configuration as the 1575 is 440 camp ready with a full 6 gal WH which is at the back of the TT lightening the tongue. Empty the WH and it would be at 450+. Those #s with a GRP 24 Batt. If their was any issues with tongue weight on a 1575 the members of Lance Owners of America forum would be all over it. They are a feisty bunch I assure you. OP: If you like the 1575 it would make a great choice. Owners on LOA seem very pleased with it. We almost went with a 1575 but I didn't want a slide and the DW LOVES the chairs instead of a dinette. Check'em out. http://www.lanceowners.org I just looked at the 1475. I like the big windows but there is no sleeping area for a third person. My nephew and his girlfriend will join me once in a while so I need the sleeping space and the room to move around a bit. For the record I am a single retired female who has very little camping/RV experience. So this is a new adventure all around. I will continue to ask questions and research until I feel I can make a good safe decision for me. Thanks all for your input.
