Before we bought our first 5th wheel we looked for 6 mths and we kept it for 11 yrs before we bought the camper we have today. Floor plan layout and access to items in slide outs is very important. Joining this forum is definitely a great resource for you friend. The Mad Norsky is correct about weight. When I bought my Nemar I had a 3/4 ton truck and it could not handle my new pin weight. I had to go to a 1 ton dually and having adequate margin is very important. My camper weight is 14.5K, but I bought a 20K hitch to protect myself against the poor road condition on our hwys. Good luck to your friend.Re: back-up camera for 5th wheelsIf you Nav system has a video input it will work. That is how I use my GPS for my back-up camera. You will need a switch to send power to the camera and that will make your Nav system go to your back-up camera.Re: Garmin RV 760LMTYou are correct I have the Dezl 760LMTRe: Help me decide. I plan to buy in the next two weeksDon't forget that you have a break-in period before towing your trailer. If you look in the owner manual it will identify that you should vary your speed for 500 miles not exceeding 55 mph. That is what my 2008 owner manual specified. Just a reminder and my 2 cents.Re: Garmin RV 760LMTI have one and bought it so I could plug in my existing back-up camera. I had a switch to power the camera and once you send power to the camera your GPS changes to your camera. I will not be without a back-up camera on my 5th wheel. This GPS allowed me to loose one monitor from my console.Re: Looking for a wireless back up cameraI installed a hard wire system and I can plug it in my GPS video input. I installed a power switch that causes my GPS to change to my Back Up Camera when I want to change lanes on the Interstate. I never thought I would like it, but I will not have a 5th wheel without a Back Up camera.Re: Raise 5th wheel ground clearanceThanks for the information, I had forgot the axles have a built in arc. I will bring the camper to an alignment shop that can handle my camper and perform the work.Raise 5th wheel ground clearanceI have a 2008 Newmar Cypress 32SLRK with disc brakes. Is it possible to move the leaf spring above the axle to gain ground clearance. I have 8K lbs dexter axles and I want to rotate the axle to move the axle plate above to secure the leaf springs. I am assuming the caliper can be unbolted and reinstalled once the axle is rotate. Can anyone provide guidance on my options.Re: From a class A to a 5th wheelOne thing to realize is there is not dead space with a 5th wheel. A 38' 5th wheel would be like having a 42' MH. You need to check out some 38' 5th wheels to see how much room you have before going any bigger.Re: Do I really need a sliding hitch? My experience: I had a F250 when I bought my 2008 (35’) Newmar camper and I was not worried. On the way home I had two busted belts on my rear tires and had to purchase two new tires. Once I got home I weighed my empty camper and found out that my rear tires were 250 lbs from their max rating. When you load your rear tires that close to max rating your truck is what people call mushy, because the sidewall of the tires cannot support the weight. I move up to a GMC 3500 dually and all my problems are gone. When you start pulling 35’+ campers you really need the stability of a dually.
