That's only because they don't hire people who know how or they are not willing to train youngsters how. "I'm sorry but our insurance doesn't allow us to work on them" is an excuse not to, not an actual fact... "I'm sorry I don't have the equipment or trained people" might be. They're not hard to do... I was doing them in a gas station in the 70s with tire chains and the car hoist to act as the safety barrier in case the rim wasn't seated properly (didn't have a cage). No, MasterBoondocker... The "Split bead" rim is what they are talking about and is commonly referred to as "split rim" (at least since the late 60's as I remember)... I don't remember ever seeing a "real" two-piece rim on a highway capable vehicle (Open pit cooper mine yes :P). This "split" controversey is a shame. EQUIPMENT and TRAINED PEOPLE ??.. LOL JUST as long as you use common sense and CARE ... that is all you need. And there ARE shops that work on these all-the-time. And K-guy ... there ARE "real" split rims. And THOSE are the ones that are to be "feared".Re: How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's? Trish Davis wrote: Split rims. I've got them. Sounds like a disease.... Anyhow, the tires read "16" so what tire size does that translate into IF I can afford all 6? 19, 19.5, 22, what? Split rims .... or split bead ?Re: How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?WHERE does a 413 fit into this discussion ? The BESTest of the Mopar RV moders !!Re: How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's? What's up, Master BD, is I don't like being a targeted buying demographic. Not just me, all of us. Fella got an awesome deal, showed up here, we welcomed him. Gave him a ton of links and tips. Must've included finding out Travcos aren't 'common' anymore. Well, yeah... since no new ones were built after the Chrysler bail-out. Week later, he tried to flog it off (on any one of us). When my dad was running his rods, folks would come over and yammer on the cars. 2 weeks later, they'd be trying to flog something they "said" Andy Davis had built /rebuilt. Or claimed to have one of his carbs on it.... Irked me then, irks me now. HP = BB? Well TD .... don't you think that the markup he desires is kind of justified ? .... he had to pay someone BIG-BUX on the write-up on eBay !! .... But the brakes are STILL not fixed !! A HP 413 ? .... there is NO truck/motorhome 413 that is CLOSE to being "High Performance" !! ...... :B I know .... I have quite a few of them. HELL - last year I bought FOUR 413's from a guy at the Mopar Nats ! They ARE a good motor for what they were designed for.Re: How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's? Owners of Dodge based RV's?From what I have heard ... this is actually DONE on a weighed vehicle -- NOT done by simply measuring circumference.
