All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsEast Texas to Taylor Park, CoWere leaving next week for a 21 day boondocking trip in TP, Colorado. Coming from Tyler, Tx and dont want to pull into TP at night. Plan to stop somewhere along the way in NM or maybe Southern, CO. We are in a toyhauler so our atvs will have to be pulled outside to let rear bed down. Any ideas of somewhere we could set up camp for a night and not worry about toys being hi-jacked?? ThanksRe: First Time Boondocking.....Need a few Questions AnsweredOh yeah plenty used to altitude change but thanks for the heads up. I think we will just wing it and see how it works. Temps seem to be in the 40s at night so we will be ok I think.Re: First Time Boondocking.....Need a few Questions AnsweredThanks I will check em out. Does anyone know if we could use a small chainsaw to cut up downfall wood there around Taylor Park area?Re: First Time Boondocking.....Need a few Questions AnsweredWe were going to do the conversion where you remove the factory regulator and put a QC nipple on but dang that was gona be like $80 for all that stuff from Calore. Decided to just get a hose for $25 that plugs into the 1# bottle port and goes to a bottle. We have 4 or 5 bottles at the house and can just take one of those with us. The way we can use the RV bottle if I hook it to grille, a 1# bottle or a remote bottle.Re: First Time Boondocking.....Need a few Questions AnsweredIt is gona suit us PERFECT. I didnt want a huge toy hauler so I could get to some remote places and didnt really want a 5er either. BUT all the bumper pull ones we saw had no seperate bedroom....I like a little privacy if you can follow that...lol. So saw this one with a queen up front and a queen in the back in the garage that sucks up to the roof with the touch of a electrical switch. Its not perfect. Has a couple spots delamination on the driver side, awning was missing, has a leak up in the front driver side corner that I will tackle when we get back. BUT I paid $6500 for it and it had 60 gallons of fresh propane and a new battery on the front. Tires were 15" 225's in great visual shape but they were 3 years old and 5 years old. I bought 4 new Firestone 225/75-16 LT Transforce 10 plys for it and new 6 hole wheels and picked up a nearly new Reese dual cam sway/weight hitch for $375 and a Honda 2000 genny in super nice shape for $675 and we should be set. Only thing we paid full price for was the stupid Weber grille my girlfriend had to have......$200 bucks!!Re: First Time Boondocking.....Need a few Questions AnsweredUnder the unit. I have a Fleetwood Gearbox toyhauler. Its a pretty awesome setup. Sorry 120 gallon fresh, 40 grey and 40 black are the specs. Has onboard fuel station. With 18 for toys and 30 for onboard genny. They are both plumbed together so you have 48 gallons of fuel available for use in the toys. Has a nozzle just like a gas station. Also has onboard air pump with quick connect on side, outside shower, built in pressure washer and low pressure propane quick connect.Re: First Time Boondocking.....Need a few Questions AnsweredIve got 125 gallons of fresh water on board.Re: First Time Boondocking.....Need a few Questions AnsweredMost of the day we will be out exploring and will not have a thing running in the RV. In the evening it will be showers for two adults and two boys....9 and 6. Supper will be cooked outside over a fire in a disco or on the Weber Q1200 grille via propane. NO Tv, No nothing. All lights are LED. Fridge will be on propane. I dont see us using that much power.Re: First Time Boondocking.....Need a few Questions AnsweredIt was put on 3 days before I bought it. It is 150 AH and is a AC Delco 4DA. Its about 18" across and weighs 100# according to specs. I had 125 AH in my head from something but its 150 after looking. Whatever I do I need to do it soon. Leaving sometime after 1st of July. skripo wrote: Glen1978 wrote: ...Is the dual 6V setup better than doubling what I have now?... It's not really about 6V vs 12V its about the fact that any deep cycle battery you buy is also made for starting, which mean thinner plates, which means less tolerance for deep discharge. Your battery may be rated at 125AH but if it only tolerates a 50% discharge before you damage it, you are only getting half that, The trojans are golf cart battery and made for this type of abuse. I would have done that myself but I had a tent trailer at the time and bought an AGM Solar rated battery. If you don't need to keep it inside or have an externally vented compartment, go for the lead acid Trojans. If I were in your shoes, I would look for a reasonably priced solar specific 12V battery to add to the existing one. Sounds like you paid good money for it, what model is it? Re: First Time Boondocking.....Need a few Questions AnsweredThat sure is good to know. Seems everybody else thought different. But then again I have no idea what our furnace pulls. Sucker is 100#'s so would rather not have two of them.....it is 150 AH. http://www.jegs.com/i/ACDelco/065/4DA/10002/-1 You have that battery and you are worried about making it thru the night? I run our trailer with a 95 Ah grp 27 and it will handle the job for a few nights in the 20's. We set the stat at 74f during the day and 68f at night and never think about it.
