The separator closes when the voltage raises to 13.1 volts on either the chassis or house side, thus regardless of the charging source, all batteries are charged. When in storage and connected to shore power all seven of our batteries are maintained by the three stage converter/charger. When dry camping, running the generator, likewise will charge all batteries. When on the road, again all are charged without the voltage drop normally introduced by the isolator. Wt. the alternator out, you would still have to do as you did in order to back feed the chassis when the generator was not running. Good find, The ones I found were in electrical bulk parts. Cord caps, bulk wire, boxes, conduit. etc. JimRe: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info. leadsled wrote: The small 30 to 15 adapters at wal-mart do get hot. I recommend the type adapter that home depot sells. It is a short piece 10gauge cord with 30amp female on one end and a 15amp male on the other. Maybe in TX, but HD here has the round plastic ones, wt. 15 amp male on one side and 30amp RV female on the others. I think they also cary the reverse, but don't know why. Is there any significant difference in the dogbone or the power maximixer in conjuction with this typ of gen set? If your Maximiser (SP?) will fit, it would be better as there is more contact area to transfer the current to your shore cord. Jim Opps, didn't mean to stick my nose in, didn't notice it was addressed to the Prof.Re: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info. defarris Does anyone have any thoughts about removing an Elim3000 from the frame and mounting it in the compartment with an electric low pressure fuel pump: why not mount on a sliding tray for the trailer compartment slide it in for travel and storage, slide it out to run it in warm weather in cold weather just open the compartment and move the slide part way out the genny gets air, and you get easy storage get a slide that will come far enough out to clear the trailer wall by at least 1 foot so you get air space and NO reflected heat JUST a thought.. I am thinking about an open door wt. an engine running by it. Heated air / exhaust and infiltration into the living area?Re: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info.Typical air cooled engine, air in the recoil end and blown over the cylinder. Generator in the end and out on the engine end. Whereas an RV unit pulls the air over the generator, then the cylinders and out over the exhaust into a duct out or down. A real challange. JimRe: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info.A help for older AC units is adding a "hard start kit". They just give the compressor a kick in the pants by using a capacitor to put an extra push into (what is normally called) the start winding. They are only about $10 wholesale and wire directly across the run capacitor. (An oval metal can wt. two terminals on top) The HS kit has a relay inside that cuts the start cap. out of the circuit after the compressor is running. These compressor motors are called permanent split capacitor. They have two windings, a main and aux. When we add a start circuit the windings are called run and start. Same motor. An important thing to remember is when a compressor stops, there is a high pressure on one side and low on the other. It takes a couple of minutes for the pressure to equalize and lower the torque required to get the assembly to run again. JimRe: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info. .... Now, can we come up with a creative and effective way to lower the not-so-loud as is hum of this litte gem? ... From looking at one of these, it appears most of the noise produced in mechanical. I don't think there is much you can do. You might try sound baffles. I made the first for the 600 watt Honda. Much smaller than yours, so I had sheet metal panels on 4 sides wt. neoprene faced fiberglass duct insulation glued on the inside, they were all separate and fastened at the corners, large enough not to interfere wt. air flow and exhaust + I had a 5" 120 volt computer muffin fan on one corner blowing down. Worked pretty good, but didn't seem worth the fuss to setup. That unit is only 1800 rpm, so not very noisy to start with. Then we were using a 2200 watt Honda, 3600 rpm. to charge batteries. I had made a wind baffle from plywood for the tabletop grill. I tried using it as a sound baffle. It did an effective job of directing the sound away from our and neighbors camps. It was just three 1/4" plywood panels, hinged together and folded flat.(treated the plywood wt. Thompson's water seal.). JimRe: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info. Heck I can't even find a Pep Boys living out here in the sticks!!!! You can have a couple of ours, 8O)= they are within a couple of miles in any direction. They often do have items that Checker and AutoZone don.t. Like last night, cleaner / wax for plastic headlight lenses. JimRe: CELL PHONE INTERNET ACCESSThere is a lot of information on VERIZON at the "internet by cellphone" Yahoo group. If you have a phone that can do "Get It Now", then you should be able to use a data cable with it and go on the net for minutes used, which is free after nine and weekends for most plans. Jim
