Now, can we come up with a creative and effective way to lower the not-so-loud as is hum of this litte gem? ...
From looking at one of these, it appears most of the noise produced in mechanical. I don't think there is much you can do.
You might try sound baffles. I made the first for the 600 watt Honda. Much smaller than yours, so I had sheet metal panels on 4 sides wt. neoprene faced fiberglass duct insulation glued on the inside, they were all separate and fastened at the corners, large enough not to interfere wt. air flow and exhaust + I had a 5" 120 volt computer muffin fan on one corner blowing down. Worked pretty good, but didn't seem worth the fuss to setup. That unit is only 1800 rpm, so not very noisy to start with. Then we were using a 2200 watt Honda, 3600 rpm. to charge batteries. I had made a wind baffle from plywood for the tabletop grill. I tried using it as a sound baffle. It did an effective job of directing the sound away from our and neighbors camps. It was just three 1/4" plywood panels, hinged together and folded flat.(treated the plywood wt. Thompson's water seal.).
