All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsCountertopsI have a Rockwood 8281WS fifth wheel that I have owned for a little over three years. The cheap countertops have started warping and I need to replace them. I see the newer models come with Corian countertops. Are those the best to replace with or go with another type material? Also has anyone had theirs replaced and at what cost? Thanks.Re: How much pin weight? All the models have 6084 on the rear axle up until maybe 2014, 2015 they changed to the 6200.Re: How much pin weight?I weighed my truck full of fuel with me, my wife, and two kids without the camper and only had 3,300 lbs on the rear axle. So that leaves almost 2,800 lbs before I hit my max.Re: How much pin weight?I have a 2003 2500HD. I weighed my truck and camper last summer ready to camp and the pin weight was 1900 lbs which put my rear axle weight at 5200 lbs total. So with my pin weight I'm still 700 lbs below my RAWR.Re: Need tow vehicle advice Grit dog wrote: Seriously, depends how much you're looking or spend how New you want as to which trucks have what issues. Diesels I'd consider to be reliable or not have fatal flaws (not just the engine but the whole package) are roughly in this order. '14-up anything. ('15 -up Pstroke for the exhaust brake) '11-up Dmax 02-07 Dmax 94-07 Cummins, stick shift only 99-03 7.3 Pstroke. Stick shift preferably. Any reason why you don't list the 08-10 Duramax? I found a 2008 I'm going to look at and interested why you didn't list those few years.Re: Rockwood Signature UltraliteWe have a 2014 8281WS. we have had it for a little over 2 years now with no problems. It's a great fifth wheel for having kids with the bunk room and half bath.Re: Need tow vehicle adviceSince I have never had a diesel it's a little intimidating. But the more I read about them they are not as bad to work on as I thought, at least the Duramax motors. Just expensive on some of the major parts. I just don't want to get a diesel and start having problems because my truck has 141k miles and has not been any trouble. I know with anything used it's always a gamble because without detailed service records there is no way of knowing how good it was kept up. I know that a diesel all around would be better. My mileage now is 11 in town, 14 on the highway, and 8 towing my camper.Re: Need tow vehicle adviceI did read somewhere that Ford started building the 6.7 in house because of how bad the 6.0 and 6.4 motors were. I would have a Ford with that motor but right now those trucks are priced more than I can afford right now.Re: Need tow vehicle adviceI have done a lot of research and I have figured out that the maintenance and quality of fuel is the biggest thing with diesels. Correct me if I'm wrong. I have always ran Mobil 1 extended performance synthetic in my truck now and change the oil with the DIC reminder so the oil changes were on the expensive side for me anyway. With pulling hills I learned real quick that I don't try to pass anybody on a hill. When I first started pulling I was going down the interstate and tried to pass a tractor trailer going up a hill and it didn't work too well. I also learned that I needed to gain speed on the downhill to be able to get up the other side without the truck gearing down and the motor screaming like it is about to come apart. I have always been a Chevy guy so I was looking for a Duramax. I have researched the Dodge/Ram and have seen some good reliability out of them besides the weaker transmissions in the early 2000's. I know to stay away from the Fords.Need tow vehicle adviceNeeding some advice on my tow vehicle. I pull a Rockwood fifth wheel that weighs 9,000 loaded. I currently have a 2003 GMC 2500hd with the 6.0 gas motor. My combination weight is within 100-200 pounds of the max. I have been wanting to upgrade to a diesel for the towing power and fuel mileage but I have never owned a diesel and hear nothing but how much they cost to maintain. I do the maintenance myself and don't mind doing the maintenance because I like for my stuff to last. I put around 10,000 miles a year on my truck with at least half of those miles towing my camper. I don't want to spend the money on buying a diesel if it's not worth it. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
