I've also owned a couple of V-10 powered rigs in the past and, while I think the V-10 is a very good engine, the 7.3 has been significantly better in every way. The power difference is much more noticeable than the numbers on paper would imply (especially when towing), and it's quite a bit quieter than the V-10 as well. We've done nothing to the suspension, and it drives great.Re: I need a toad.I tow a 2018 Ford Fiesta with a manual transmission. It doesn't get any easier. The only "prep" it needs for towing is to put it in neutral and release the parking brake, and it's so light that I don't even notice it. Only problem is that when you get to where you're going, you have to drive a Ford Fiesta, lol. But I already had it, and I wasn't about to spend the money for a Jeep to tow around.Re: Can you name that sound (squeaking)? It definitely sounds like brakes to me. It seems to be at wheel speed, not driveline speed, so I doubt it's a u-joint or carrier bearing. Can you jack it up when it's cold and rotate the wheels? Ideally, you would put the rear on jackstands and run it while it's stationary to see if you can hear it while you stand outside. Then you could hopefully identify where it's coming from. Unfortunately, most people don't have that capability. Have you ever replaced the brake pads? If not, I'm thinking it might be about time.Re: outside speakers ppine wrote: The only problem is everyone else can hear your music. One night some camping neighbors were watching a Star Wars type movie. They were inside, but the outside speakers were really loud. I knocked on their door. "Oh sorry we didn't know the outside speakers were on." On my 2021 Sunseeker, the outside speakers are "A" and every time I turn on the TV inside, it defaults to the outside speakers being on. It's really annoying. One of these days I'll change it so it defaults to the inside speakers (or maybe disconnect the outdoor speakers, since I've never used them intentionally), but I haven't gotten around to it yet.Re: 2006 Ford E450 Transmission issue rjstractor wrote: Tom_Anderson wrote: It's an "O/D Off" button. IIRC the 5R110W was being used in the E-series by then. Yup, but pianotuna was talking about his rig, which is a 2004. That's why he said it turns off the O/D, which is true for his rig, but is not the case with the OP's rig.Re: 2006 Ford E450 Transmission issue Grit dog wrote: pianotuna wrote: Rolin wrote: I don't understand exactly what Tow/haul does. I try to use it most of the time, but was experimenting to see what seemed to keep the transmission happy so we could limp home. It locks out the overdrive. Possible it’s just a downshift button as old as the rig is, but generally tow haul does not lock out any forward gears on the vast majority of vehicles It's an "O/D Off" button. Super Duty chassis with the 7.3 engine is tuned to produce 430 hp at 5,500 rpm. The Premium RV 7.3 is tuned to produce 350 hp at 3,750 rpm. I think its better suited for the rv which is always hauling its weight where a P/u is not. To have power early on , lower rpm's, is a benefit in an rv. Hmmm ... other than in drag, or closed course, racing ... what pickup driver (or RV driver) revs their 7.3 V8 to 5,500 rpm? I'm guessing that the "RV tuned version" of the 7.3 V8 would probably be putting out close to 430 hp too ... at 5,500 rpm. This is the point I was trying to make. It's just rated at a different RPM. That doesn't mean it's detuned.Re: "Godzilla" Ford V 8I'd be interested to know how many HP the pickup truck version produces at 3750 RPM. My guess is that it's not much (if any) more than the motorhome version.
