A year or so ago we bought a class B, drove 5 hours one way to see it, then the next week stripped and cleaned the old class A for trade in, then drove the 5 hours to the dealer with it. We did the walkthrough and so on. As we were about to sign the contract, she said oops the salesman made a mistake and they needed $10,000 on the spot. So we drove home in dejection, had to reload everything in the MH, thought we could never afford a B. I guess we just are too nice and look easy to cheat. And this salesman knew about our previous experience elsewhere. So I guess the dealer got the elevator and we got the shaft. Well, thanks for reaffirming we were justified in being upset. All I can do now is mention it in the reviews on their website.Am I being greedy? We just traded in our class A on a new class B. The upholstery in the old rig is doing the usual flaking everyone seems to suffer. I understand it cannot be sold like that. The dealer asked if I could help defray the cost of fixing the upholstery problem, and I agreed. However, since the A had brand new tires and battery, and a lot of things I added and can't use for the B, I thought the few grand he didn't have to spend on those things would offset some of the upholstery cost. I was under the impression we were splitting the cost of replacing it. Then after we did the walkthrough he asked for the entire $2500 from us with him sharing none of the cost. This is money we cannot afford, and will make for a tight budget for awhile. Was I expecting too much for them to share the cost? What if I had presented it with decent ultraleather, but 7 year old tires that needed replaced? Would I have had to pay for those? I spent several thousand on new stuff right before we traded it. Oh well, we like the new RV anyhow, and in a few years we won't be noticing the extra cost. Oh, we did pay typical price for the new one, not a huge discount, so they weren't missing out on a profit even if they had shared the cost.Re: black tank chemicalsI have used Blue Streak for years. It costs a bit upfront, but is worth it. It dispenses a bit of chemical with every flush. That eliminates the guessing about how much to add based on how long you will be camping, eliminates forgetting, eliminates the mess. Since some stays in the bowl, it helps keep things clean and the seal good. There is a faint baby powder scent, but not strong. I will be installing one in my new RV we just bought. Look into it, especially those of you who use the rig a lot.Re: ram promaster class BThanks everyone. The Promaster is an ugly van, and the interior is cheap looking. But it is much more affordable than the Transit or Sprinter. I would have no interest in lane keeping or all that expensive and useless electronic junk. I believe a driver should drive, not let the vehicle do it. And you are correct that it has a lower floor and is wider. So I just downsized from a 40 foot class A to a Roadtrek Zion SRT. Have only driven it home from the dealer so far. Nice to park it in the driveway instead of at a storage facility a few miles away. We are looking forward to a trip soon. Until the snowbirds leave Florida, we may just do an overnight at Wallyworld or Cracker Barrel. Then a real trip this summer to see family all over.ram promaster class BDoes anyone have a class B built on a Ram Promaster van chassis? Do you like it? It seems to have more power and torque than most Chassis, but does that result in better performance? How does it handle? I see more and more B's with this chassis, but I am not sure whether it is a good one. I am looking at one and do not know if the lower cost and easier maintenance outweigh the diesel toughness?Re: Triton V-10We have a 39'11" class A with the 6.8 engine, with Banks. Performs great for us. Gets near 8 mpg, if I drive carefully. As others have noted, it is a high-revving engine that loves to roar along at 4-5000 RPM on hills, but will pull all day. I usually have to back off to avoid running up on trucks on hills. Sure, a diesel will be quieter and last longer, but also cost a great deal more to purchase and maintain. Due to the higher weight of diesel MHs the mpg isn't that much different. And longevity is only important if you plan to put 100k miles or more on it. and even then I know folks with pickups with the 6.8 with over 100k and still going strong. BTW, are you sure about your class C HP? Most diesel C's have under 200 HP and run 15-17000 pounds.Re: Steering StabilizerI put a Steer-Safe on our prior Ford Chassis. It wasn't magic, but it did reduce the wandering and wobbling. Made the trip more comfortable and less tiring. And the price was better than most stabilizers. Our current rig is longer and heavier, so it hasn't needed one yet. The biggest part is accepting that it is a motorhome, and can't be driven like a car.Re: Hope this wasn't YOUR slide-out!I would have been contacting the local police as soon as I saw the driver wasn't going to recognize my warning. That slide could have come out and hit someone. That is a scary traffic hazard, and the police should have been made aware of it.Re: cell reception optionsOops, that was snowbirding. Danged autocorrect changed it. Thanks for the suggestions. We are in northern Florida and I have a Samsung Galaxy 3 and Verizon. I don't really want to have to change from Verizon or get a new number, like some of the WiFi phone apps do. And it isn't worth spending lots of money just to call family occasionally. Y'know, technology is a real pain sometimes.cell reception optionsWe are snowboarding for the first time. There is very poor cell phone reception here, but good wifi. Does anyone know of a free and simple app so we can call family in the frozen North? Or any other suggestions on how to get around the poor cell service here? An inexpensive but effective booster antenna, phone app, or something else you have used? We don't want to change provider just for a few months stay down here. I am not very technology savvy, and need advice. Thanks.
