Maybe get a 2nd battery and swap 'em. There is a 7pin female in the bed of the truck. If I hook that up directly to a deep cycle would it charge over time? It would certainly be getting higher amps at highway speeds than at idle. Thanks again. BBatter and charging systemHello all. I've been doing some work on our 99 Dutchmen TT. I'm doing it after work at the storage facility so I've been using the furnace and lights. All of the sudden the battery drained to nothing and the truck (Chevy diesel 3/4 ton Silverado) isn't charging it. Should the truck be able to charge the TT battery while only idling? Should the truck battery/charging system at idle be able to run all the TT D/C powered components? When plugged into the TV the running lights on the TT work relative to the TV lights. Turn off the lights on TV and running lights on TT go off simultaneously. I've been wondering if the plug attached to the TT is maybe needing replacement. Is this probably evidence of that? Thanks to all, in advance. BRe: Power conditioner at koa campgroundOh well, hell. My bad. Op here. I bet the readout of amps on the power conditioner is the amperage that the trailer is drawing a given moment, NOT the amperage available! Duh. BRe: Power conditioner at koa campgroundSo then beware this campground folks. Last night our conditioner (SurgeGuard 34730) showed 103 volts and 3,yes THREE amps! Completely unacceptable when I paid for 30. But that did prompt a question from DW. How much power does the power conditioner itself draw. I would think a very small amount, if any. Thanks again to all. Happy trails. BRe: Denver to East Coast vacation ideasWow! Great responses all! We took your advice and will do the east coast another time; probably will fly. Instead, we are taking our summer vacation to the general Seattle area; a trip my wife has been wanting to do. I have learned a lot so far and will post for those who might learn from my experiences. Thanks again. BPower conditioner at koa campgroundHello all. We're staying at a koa in Seattle Tacoma. Running the a/c and microwave simultaneously makes the $250 power conditioner turn off. Upon inspection, the power level shows 109 or 105 volts and goes from 15 amps to 25 amps on the display. The maintenance guy said bypass the conditioner because their system is fused and they've been getting this all summer. Needless to say, I'm hesitant to take his word for it. Opinions anyone? Thanks. BDenver to East Coast vacation ideasHello All. We've got a two week vacation to use July into August this summer. We've got a 16 year old girl that we'd like to inflict some culture on. We're thinking of doing an east coast trip. We've got a gas powered Suburban towing a 4k lb, 26' TT, three of us with no pets. I'm thinking that there's so much to do out there, we'd never get it all done in one trip. Just wondering if anyone has advice on routes, times and/or attractions that we must/should do. Thanks in advance. BRe: TT winter dry or almost dry campingWell, for clarity sake, we are done shopping. Our black and gray water tanks are exposed under the vehicle. What would be wrong with a small layer of ice in the bottom of those tanks? If the aren't full and the water/ice can expand, it shouldn't rupture anything right? One could wait until it warmed up to empty? Just a thought. Set me straight someone, if I'm out to lunch on this one. :-PRe: TT Water Heater QuestionThat's awesome. What's your engine? Trailer weight? Slow going up big Hills or mountain passes?TT winter dry or almost dry campingHello All. When we were shopping for our TT we had a salesperson advise that we could camp in the winter if we created some sort of sludge mixture of water and salt (and perhaps some other ingredients that I don't remember) in the gray and/or black water tank. In our TT the fresh water tank is under the bed and could be kept from freezing by the furnace that warms the interior anyway. Ditto for the plumbing hoses to the various sinks or the tub. So, afaik, the only liquid that would be subject to the cold of winter and not heated in any way (short of an electric tank heater) would be the gray and black water tanks. Is there any way to keep that water from freezing? I could see just antifreeze in the gray water tank. Would antifreeze in the black water tank interfere with the chemicals that go in there to break down waste? Thanks, in advance, and Happy Camping!
