This is not like 2007 when business failure caused the issues. Are economy was deliberately shut down for health reasons. There will be payment forgiveness and lots of amnesty. This is a good point, but the unemployment rate is theorized at an actual 14%, expected to reach 19% in the US. The 4.4% is the worse 2 month drop since 1975. 177,000 furloughs that will probably turn into a 3 month or longer break from work. While there may be loan forgiveness to some extent I suspect people will focus on repaying their mortgage as a primary goal and let the RV's go to repossession. The smart people with temporary layoffs will offload themselves if they can, trying to salvage their credit score. This will be at firesale levels, I predict. The rest will go to the auctions but that will take time to start seeing. We made a reasonable (I think, given the situation) offer, only 13% lower than the advertised price and the RV dealership who was offering the unit on consignment wouldn't even push the offer to the owner. That, to me is criminal. I would bet that owner would be glad to accept a 13% discount to have cash in hand. We are paying cash. Now we are playing the waiting game and I suspect we will prevail, eventually. I think this is right. The economy when we’re through this won’t be the economy before it started. Unemployment will be higher and while loans may be forgiven for a period of time, they wont be forgiven forever. People will have to make choices, and getting back to the OP’s post it could be a great time to buy an RV or anything else.Re: Buyers market?I think the question how long does this go on is right. We were starting to think about replacing our unit, but will probably look used and are holding off to see what prices will be later this yr. According to Camping World’s 10k, they sold over 100,000 units (pop-ups to DP; approx 2/3rds new - 1/3rd used) last yr (3500 Class A Gas, 500 Class A Diesel) and financed over 74% of the units. I’m guessing they finance a higher percentage of Class A’s and some number of the other 26% are financed elsewhere. I don’t know what their market share is, but that’s a lot of financed units. Other interesting unrelated facts: In 2019 they had $3.2B in sales with income of $475MM from these units. They made $400MM on financing. They have 12,000 full time and part time employees.Re: Adding 2nd radio to DiscoveryFred - No. Great thought, but it’s the same problem that happens on many radios where you spin the knob and the volume does what it wants. I’ve seen some videos that recommend spraying contact cleaner in the connection. The way this one is sealed doesn’t seem to help. Wa8yxm - Great suggestion. Thank you! Sure enough. Still in it’s original package in the cabinet where I put it 10 yrs ago. I’ll get a new battery tomorrow and see if it works. I’m still interested in putting a 2nd radio so I can leave the camera on and have the radio or map up as well if anyone has done this.Adding 2nd radio to DiscoveryI have a 2010 Fleetwood Discovery. The radio volume knob doesn’t work. I was thinking about leaving the cameras hooked up to this unit and adding a new radio in the open area to the right of the existing unit. Has anyone done this? Any issues?Re: Long Driving Days: Class A vs. TrailerFor me it is night and day. We’ve traveled from Texas to Florida, California and Canada. I have a job and limited time off. I’ve loved every trip we’ve ever taken in the trailer and RV and love the places we’ve run into unexpectantly and spent time exploring (Little Big Horn, Pertrified Forest National Park, etc), but sometimes we just need to get “there” and make a note of those unique places for next time. We started out with a 26’ travel trailer (4500#) and an Expedition. We never really took it further than 300 mi and I was done when we got there. Trailer was well under the tow rating of the expedition, but driving a safe speed (60ish) and fighting the wind wore me out. Not to mention traveling with 3 young kids (and the dog most times) in the back, stoping for bathroom and gas entirely to often (6 mpg). It would have been better with a diesel 3/4 ton and I might feel different, but I doubt it. We moved up to a DP. Now when we have long travel days we only stop when I need to. Usually every 3 hrs, but I’ve driven 6 hrs with out getting up. We Walmart camp, so I don’t see the need to stop early and will drive until 10-12 PM. On these long travel days we’ll often travel 600-800 mi. For us, everyone is more comfortable and relaxed. I can’t tell you how nice it is to not start a trip hearing the kids squawk about who did what to who because they’re crammed in the back seat together. I don’t have to stop because someone needs to use the restroom. We take our own food so we eat better. When the kids were younger we would find a park for lunch so they could run around for a few min and we could stretch our legs. It’s infinitely better for me. Part of it is the switch from a truck/trailer to an RV and part from gas to diesel. Hope this helps.2010 Fleetwood Disco 40G Transfer Switch loc?My house was struck by lightning with the RV plugged in. I think the transfer switch fried. Any idea where it’s located? I’m told I’ll need to replace the switch and monitor panel and harness? Does this sound right? There’s no 110 on shore power and the inverters are dead. Start the generator and everything works just fine. Thanks in advance.Re: towing a Jeep with aftermarket bumperI put a Rockhard bumper on ours. They have a bracket built for Blue ox. It screws into the frame where the bumper attaches. I wouldn't think bumper thickness would be an issue since it's not screwed into the bumper. Several of the bumpers I looked at had D rings in the way for this bracket and can't be used. http://www.rockhard4x4.com/product_p/rh-8000-bo.htmRe: towed mileageMy Jeep wrangler does if I use the brake buddy and need the key turned for 12V power. I need to run a12V off the coach.Re: 2015 fleetwood discovery 40GWe have a 2010 40G and really enjoy it. With 3 kids we looked at everything with bunks, which was only 5 models at the time. I can't remember the difference in each coach that pushed us to the Discovery, but remember there were a lot of little things. Over all we liked the layout better especially in the main area. We liked the U shaped table. In some of the coaches the bunks weren't accessible with the slides in. In others the TV in the main area was covered I with the slides in. It's hard for the kids to watch TV when we're driving if it's behind a wall. The closest dealer to me is almost 300 miles, so I repair as much as I can myself. As Blaster Man says, Fleetwood customer service is fantastic. I call them several times a yr with a questions. They're always quick with an answer or an email with a schematic. Spartan Chassis customer service is the same. The one thing that frustrates me on the Discovery (maybe it's changed, I doubt it) are the plastic pieces. There's 10 or so of them in the coach. They keep the closet doors closed, sliding bathroom doors from swinging, etc. They constantly break. When one breaks I buy 5. I'm guessing there in all the coaches, but would look. We're not in the market for our next coach so I can't compare what's out there today. If we were, I'd look at everything, but certainly buy another Fleetwood with no hesitation.Re: South Llano Texas SPLiving in West Texas, it's my favorite park for the drive. The South Llano River is one of the best springs in Tx. There's always water. There's a great swimming hole at the front of the park or you can tube to the turkey roost area. I'd recommend getting a site on the back of the loop if available.
