What do you think total cost is to build the conversion? The major cost will be the demand regulator. You MUST have this and it MUST be purchased from a supplier such as US Carb.. I just discovered there may now be a problem getting this regulator from US Carb - I could no longer find it on their web site as an individual piece. They only showed the more expensive ($89) Beam regulator. Give them a call to see what is going on...... You can safely outsource and reuse other parts like the tank regulator, load block, LPG feed block, and hoses. I could do a conversion with the Woodard regulator shown outsourcing small parts, making the LPG feed block and reallocating a cast off BBQ grill tank regulator in this manner for under $90, shipping included. Of course, buying everything new could easily bring the price to $200 or more. its there.its just buried real deep.I just found the KN regulator,& put it in my shopping cart Re: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info.Nevermind I found the answer back on page 336. It is a home depot model by chqampion. Thanks any way.Re: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info.I figured it outRe: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info.I've folling this topic on this forum for a few years now.I have a WEN Power PRO 3000/3500 from Pep Boys.It works great.I just got power yeaterday(monday 9/8/08),after having it go out last monday @ aroung 8am when Gustav began to come through.I've put some hours on the little gen, with out any problems.the main thing I do is keep my oil changed. One day I ran it for 18 hours straight. I have a question I hope someone can help me with. The company I work for was giving the employees Champion generators after the storm hit. So I got me one.It is Black in color,11 HP engine,& is 5000 watts cont.,& 6000 peak. The problem is I can't find any info on the internet about this generator.I looked at Champions web site,& it is identical to some of the yellow ones of the same size of this one,but it is not listed anywhere it is a Champion -CPE power station- model # 40046. If anyone has ,or knows anywhere I can get some info on the net about this unit please let me know. Thanks 0)Re: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info.I have a WEN POWER PRO 3500.I have gas in it thats pretty old 1 year or so(with STABIL in it).I am guessing I need to drain it & replace it with fresh fuel with stabil.anyone have any tricks on draining the gas?like removing the little screen on the petcock & draining from there?or removing the whole tank,& dumping back through the fill opening? Just wondering what is the easiest was to drain the fuel.it is empty from the petcock to the carbeurator,as I run the gas out of the carb. whenever I shut the engine down. Thanks for any ideas,Re: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info. Hot Rod Cummins wrote: For those who have purchased the PowerPro 3500. If it has a 120v-120/240V switch on it, it will output full capacity to the 120V outlet according to the tech guy I talked to this morning. I pulled the cover off the gen head and noticed the voltage regulator has a tag on it that says 50HZ 2200 watts. When I asked about this he told me it was prolly mislabeled and there was no way to check it other than run it and see what happens. Is there anything that can be damaged in a RV with 50HZ instead of 60HZ? I am starting a 2 week RV trip so it will get some use and I will know more later. they are correct saying that the frequency (HZ)is controlled by the speed of the generator turning. When I used to work at a generator rental shop,we used to set the speed to 62HZ at no load,to compensate for the slight loss of speed when the gen loads up,& the governor has to adjust. At 1/2 load it should have a perfect 60HZ,& full load around 58-59 HZ.If you don't have access to a frequency meter, the clock trick works great also. This is how I set my 2 portable,& 1 home made generator(made with an induction motor) still today without any problems.Re: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info.A few post back there was some talk about voltage regulators going bad/being broken.I have a Wen Power Pro 3500 I was wondering,I always run the fuel out of my carb on my gen,& it surges,& spitts & sputters, untill it doesn't have anymore left in the carb to run. Can this hurt the voltage regulator? Of course I run the fuel out with no load on the gen. I;ve always done this with my loud 5kw coleman, but it has the capacator to regulate the voltage.the Power Pro is the 1st generator I own with an AVR. Thanks for any info.Re: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info. Wuttevr wrote: I am the least qualified, but since no one else has responded since you posted last night, I will regurgitate previously given advice in this situation. I realize you stated that you had nothing else in the camper "on". However, we have to be absolutely certain that the fridge is off, and not just in auto mode. How about the water heater, assuming it even has an electric element? What is the state of charge of your batteries? I would start up the generator and head into the camper. Turn the fan on high and while waiting, double check that all possible electrical loads are gone. I would wait 5 or so minutes and then kick the compressor on. The last time I had trouble, I had to run the fan at least this long. If you still have problems, try disconnecting your batteries. I don't know how many watts a converter/charger can consume of the available 3,500, but it could be significant if your batteries are low. Be sure to wait several minutes (with the fan running)in between attempts to start up the compressor. Beyond that, it might be the old "OEM save a buck" problem of the A/C unit not having the hard start kit included. I don't have the vernacular, let alone the knowledge of some others on this forum, so hopefully they will chime in on the specifics here. But basically, as I understand it, the hard start kit is a capacitor that stores up some juice in anticipation of the huge draw when the compressor first starts up. If your A/C unit lacks this, the current draw at start up can be well in excess of the wattage your Champion can provide, even at its peak rating. I have read numbers in the $60-70 range for the kit. I have also read that checking to see if you have it is rather easy. I will have to defer to those smarter than I on this particular point. Good luck. If you can,or know someone that can get Air cond. parts Wholesale, you can get a universal hard start kit for around $10-$20.(I think they are made by Supco)I get them for that price for all the time.Very easy to hook up too, just hook up in parrell with the run capacator,& turn the unit on.Re: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info. Curly2001 wrote: All-Just curious as to how the Wen Power Pro 3500 generators are lasting. Can they pull a 13.5 A/C unit? Are any mods necessary for them to pull that load? Thanks, Curly I had one but a thief cut my steel cable and took it out of my truck. I only had a few hours on it. Curly I have one I bought in Oct 1995(right after Hurricaine Katrina). It has I would guess around 100-125 hours on it ans is holding up just fine.Still starts on the 1st or 2nd pull.I have been running 10w30 synthetic blend oil in it.seeme OK.My dad also has one.we had to mod it for full 120v power to get it to run the A/C in his fiver. Now I have a question, does anyone know where online I can order parts(mostly engine)for a Coleman Powermate Maxa 5000?(I found a few,but am leary ordering parts from a company I know nothing about)I been having it since 1995,& it saved my a** during Hurr.Katrina.It is VERY LOUD,but was glad to have it,Along with my 1000,& 500 watt inverters, with 9 deep cycle communications batteries.I ran the gen for probally 12 to 15 hours for 8 days (ran perfectly).now it doesn't seem to have any compression left.(at least not much)I would like to rebuild before Hurricaine season this year. Thanks for any infoRe: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info.Someone correct me if I am wrong. But if you were to connect the Generator frame to a 8 foot ground rod in the ground,so it would be grounded like the electric service panel ground, that should make it OK to bond the neutral & ground together at the generator, right???? I know it would be a PITA to drive a 8ft ground rod everywhere you go,but if someone was gonna leave the genny stationary, like for home backup power it could be feasible.
