All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsWhy campgrounds have gates.Recently I traveled out to Michigan from NJ. In Ohio we stopped for the night. The next morning I was getting stuff put away for the trip when a Class A pulled up, stopped and just sat there in the street. It just so happened a maintenance man was at my site working on a plumbing issue and he walked over to check on what was going on with the Class A. As it turned out, the girl at the desk allowed these people to check-in and gave them our site. The time was just after 9am. We were almost ready to roll so it wasn't a big deal, but what if we had decided to stay right up to the last minute to check-out. Then we were in Michigan and getting ready to leave the site. Once again it was just 9am. I car pulls up in front of my driveway and the guy yells out of the window, this is my site, when will you be out I have my RV up the road and I'm waiting. Once again we were almost ready to roll so it was no big deal but when did this stuff start ?Re: Tahoe vs SuburbanI had a 2002 (5.3L) and 2007 (5.7L)Suburban 1500 and pulled a 28 foot Sunline TT with the Equalizer hitch. Never had a problem. Comfortable vehicle for passengers and plenty of room to haul extra stuff. Never owned a Tahoe so I can't answer any questions about that.Re: Looking for Michigan adviceThanks everyone for the information. It gives me something to figure into my planning. Last summer we somehow got caught up in the Sturgis Bike Rally. We camped with a lot of nice bikers, but they do take over the area.Re: Looking for Michigan adviceYes Bob...sorry I got carried away. LOLLooking for Michigan adviceI'm starting to plan a trip from New Jersey over to Cleveland, Ohio. After Cleveland I want to swing around and head up into Mackinac Island. After that I want to head west and drop back down through Michigan on the west side of Lake Superior. I would appreciate any suggestions on good campgrounds (with hookups) or advice on where to stay away from. Thanks in advance.Re: Wireless networks while campingWe just spent a few weeks out west. The "Free" Wi-Fi wasn't worth the trouble and my Virgin Mobile Aircard was useless because they had no coverage in the area of the Rockies.Re: Towing a Fifth WheelI have had the fifth wheel out a couple of times. It has a different feel sitting on axle as opposed to the bumper. As for backing, I really haven't found that much difference. I always have a spotter, just in case, and I always take it slow and easy. I found that rushing seems to get you more dents and scratches. Thanks for the comments....maybe I will see you out there somewhere.Re: Campground AdviceWhen only one person complains about a place that is one thing. If a couple people complain basically about the same problem then it's time to take heed and find another place to stay.Campground AdviceHas anyone stayed at Durham-Birchwood RV Park, North Carolina and if so, how was it ? Also, Henderson-Tobacco Farm Campground, North Carolina. ThanksRe: Vermillion Cliffs National Monument, ArizonaI have been trying to plan some type of route, but there are so many things I want to see it's almost impossible. A few years back I was in that general area on a business trip. A guy told me about a place called "Terra Weep" and said all the professional photographers go there for their best photographs of the Grand Canyon. I followed his directions, and traveled 60 miles on a very smooth dirt road until I reached the location. It was worth the trip. Thank you everyone for you comments.
