He was surprised that the SWM8 worked at all, so I guess I'm lucky I can use both tuners in the DVR. He said that Whole House will not work at all, it requires a HD dish. I surmise that the HD signal from the dish is what is modulated in the receiver for Whole Home to work. Just my opinion, I could be wrong.Re: DirecTV DVR with King Dome - How to use 2 tunersOK, here are my results. I obtained a SWM8, 29V PI, and 1x4 green label splitter (not used) from Amazon for around $50 for everything. The King Dome has only 2 outputs, labeled 'MAIN' and 'AUX'. Everything I've read about the SWM8 says to hook up 4 wires from the antenna to the SWM8. Since I only had 2, those are the ones I hooked up. Main into the 13V input and AUX into the 18V input. Then I put the PI inline behind the DVR and wired it through with power to the roof on the existing line. Then I went back on the roof with a meter to check that the cable that formerly was wired into the KD 'MAIN' input is the one that had voltage from the PI. Can't be too sure. So that coax went into the SWM1/Power input, the other home run to the bedroom receiver went into the SWM2 output. The result of all this after several days of re-booting and checking cables is that I now have 2 tuners working in the DVR and can watch one show while recording another. And the Bedroom receiver works fine. BUT, I cannot get multi-room (whole home) to work, no matter what. I have run a long CAT-5 on the floor between the two HR24s, no difference. Both receivers are authorized for Whole Home. I've played with IP addresses to make sure they were on the same sub-net. I put the Ethernet cable through a switch and it appears that packets are being sent. But no matter what I've done, Whole Home status says that there are no other receivers networked. Just not going to happen. BTW, the H24 series do not require a DECA or bandpass filter, they are built in. I don't know if it needs to hooked up to a HD dish (which the King Dome is not) in order to power a frequency band that Whole home uses or what the answer is. (Other than it's probably the King Dome) There are those pesky 2 unused inputs..... The SWM8 appears to be working properly so I would assume (yes, I know) that the connections would take place in the SWM8 between the H24s.Re: DirecTV DVR with King Dome - How to use 2 tunersDid a Google search for 'directv whole home wiring diagram' and came up with a lot of good information and diagrams. Both my receivers are H24 series, so are SWM compatible. So it looks like if I do the SWM8 on the roof, PI at the main receiver, I will then have Whole Home (RV) and can watch recordings in the bedroom. Next stop, Amazon. Thanks everyone for pointing me in the right direction.Re: DirecTV DVR with King Dome - How to use 2 tunersSo much great info. I like the idea of mounting the SWM8 on the roof using both KD ouputs as inputs to the SWM8. Then plugging the existing coax(s) into 2 of the outputs. I'm assuming the other outputs would need to be terminated. Then just mount the power inserter as a pass through to the DVR on the main TV. Just checking, then the bedroom receiver does NOT need a PI? Just the straight coax from the roof mounted SWM8 (which is getting its' power from the DVR PI. Would this setup enable 'whole home' viewing? Both receivers are whole home capable.Re: DirecTV DVR with King Dome - How to use 2 tunersThanks, that's a very concise description of what I have to do for the end result I want. I don't know if it's actually possible to re-wire the coach as the 'front' TV is actually mid-coach, and that home run makes a couple of turns and may travel through the wall. Don't know. May be more trouble than it's worth.Re: DirecTV DVR with King Dome - How to use 2 tunersSorry, should have been even more clear. The main KD coax is going to the front AV area. The Aux KD coax is already in use going to the bedroom receiver. So both KD outputs are already in use, but not tied like a SWM setup so the bedroom receiver can't see the DVRs recorded shows. What has to happen is for the main output to be split to hit both tuners. I don't think a common splitter will do the job. And, being essentially transformers, they don't pass DC.DirecTV DVR with King Dome - How to use 2 tunersBecause we moved and DirecTV set me up with a genie at home, I found myself with an extra DVR. I already have an owned non-DVR receiver in the MH, so I thought I'd put the new/old DVR on the front TV and move the non-DVR to the bedroom TV since there was a satellite outlet there. Both outlets are home runs to the King Dome on the roof. So, here are my 2 questions. 1) The DVR has 2 F connectors for the 2 tuners built into the box, but there's only one wire from the King Dome. I know the receiver supplies sense voltage to the antenna. Is there a device that I can use to split the King Dome wire to use both tuners and still supply the 18V to the dome? Then I could watch something and record something else. (or watch a recording and record 2 different programs. I cannot do that now with only 1 tuner connected. 2) What is needed to be able to watch a recorded program on the bedroom TV like we do at home? The only wires between the 2 locations are component cables from the switcher, and the co-ax that runs separately from each receiver to the dome. There is, of course, no internet between the 2. Thought about running a x-over cat-5 between them, but it's a lot of work as the bedroom TV is in a slide, and I don't know if it would work. Do-able, but hard. I have not yet run a loose wire just for testing purposes.Re: Exercise the Generator or open your walletI also had to recently replace my carb. The carb. CANNOT be rebuilt or effectively cleaned as the parts are pressed together, not bolted or screwed. I have an inverter and battery bank that we use mostly, or we usually have full hook ups. So I don't use the generator unless we're dry camping and it's hot, or we want to use the microwave. This cost be a shade over $300. The cause is said to be the high ethanol content in gas, which evaporates and leaves behind the 'varnish' that gums up the works. I was given 2 options by the very good mobile RV tech who changed it out. 1) exercise the generator under load 1 hour every 30 days. I asked 'why under load' and was told it was solely to increase the volume of gas going through the carb. OR 2) (my preferred method) Pull one wire from the generator fuel pump and run it till it stops. Then open the small screw on the bottom of the float tank and drain it completely. This is only about 4 drops of gas. Then plug the fuel pump back in. Good to go. Now I do this when we get home if we've used the generator. The fuel pump is a small cylinder looking device under the generator base on the left side. It has a small wiring harness that has 2 wires that go from the pump up to the control electronics (where the start switch and breakers are). On my MH, there is an insulated spade lug connector on each wire, I guess so the pump can be changed without going into the black box. It's a very simple matter to unplug one of the wires. Just pull it apart. Doesn't matter which one. Then start 'til it stops, drain the float tank, done. (really, it's about 4 drops of gas after the generator stops)Re: Here We Go Again, Gas Will Be Above $4 a Gallon By SummerThe only reason for the high gas prices is the same as it's always been: because they can. There is no other reason.Re: Garmin Live TrafficThe smartphone link traffic is different than the default lmT that comes with the RV760. I believe it uses the data from Google maps traffic, which, I believe gets its' data from mobile users motion in aggregate, so it has a much wider coverage area that the somewhat limited power cord traffic receiver. The smartphone link traffic alerts you to traffic ahead, and construction delay on your route, and displays right on your screen. I also subscribed to the weather and got severe weather alerts and animated weather maps on the GPS. The subscription is for the life of the device, not an annual fee.
