We take a 3 week (or so) road trip every summer for the past couple years, it's the absolute best family time we have. There are no distractions, so many memories, and new friends made around the country. It's worth every penny of the cost of ownership. We are hoping the A class opens up even more opportunities to "hit the road".Re: A Class bunk floor plan helpThanks all for the reply. We completely understand the separation requirement, our 5er is great for that with the bunks all the way in the back, but the **** thing still rocks. We actually prefer the newer models with the nice drop down bunks up front, that come down far enough to hit the seats. But, our 15 year old daughter really wants her own space. The National design gave her that versus being in a hall. Anyway, we just found a Newmar locally and even though the bunks are in the "hall", it's a nice unit, we all liked the layout and finish, so we plan to purchase it. This one will (fingers crossed) last us until she doesn't want to, or can't because or work, travel with us anymore. That makes me sad even typing it.A Class bunk floor plan helpMy family is currently searching for a used A class, preferably no more than 10 years old. We are looking for bunks and most seem to have a similar layout with the bunks in the "hall" across from the bathroom. We came across this layout and are wondering if there are any others with a similar bunk room. If you are going around the 4th of July, one of our families favorite experiences has been the 4th on Lake Champlain. The city campground is great, 2 mile ride on the bike path into Burlington, and the Lake is beautiful. If you want a spot there that day you have to reserve the minute they open reservations. Oh, I almost forgot, the firework show was amazing.Re: 5th wheel hitch questions2011 Chevy 2500HD with the Andersen hitch, under bed gooseneck, we did 2500 mile trip last summer after getting it setup no complaints. The pros for me where price and the fact I can take it out by myself when not towing and put the bedliner back in. Takes me 5-10 minutes, so easy! My trailer is 8' and I can get 90 degrees. I rotated the adapter and use a 5" offset because that's all Draw Tite offers. Unfortunately, I can't remember how much it clears by. To the OP, this is my first fifth wheel, and I researched hitches like crazy, good luck, there are many great hitches really comes down to your personal needs. You might want to buy the trailer first, you could always have it delivered and then install the hitch.Re: Suggest 7,000lb fifth wheelsWe have a 2007 Chaparral 269BHS from their Lite Floorplans (1/2 towable), but we do tow it with a 3/4 ton. Here is the brochure: Chaparral BrochureRe: Summer trip to Missouri and Arkansas - advice/recommendationYes, I understand that, I was strictly referring to safety concerns at the 2 campgrounds.Re: Mammoth Cave NPI'm sorry I don't remember the name of the tour we did, but it was pretty basic maybe 1.5 hours. My wife and daughter were too nervous to do any of the more adventurous tours, but I think they regretted the decision after we were done. However, we all agree it was absolutely amazing!Re: Need Information on Alabama Coast CampgroundsWe stayed at Gulf Shores State Park and wish we lived closer so we could go back. Being from PA I was a little nervous about staying in gator country, but figured it had such great reviews we'd be fine. So we got a site on the water and I was lucky enough to watch a gator swim by while drinking my morning coffee. The state park beach also became one of our favorite beaches and is only a short drive from the campground. The campground is quiet and also has a very nice pool. So many great memories there!Re: Summer trip to Missouri and Arkansas - advice/recommendationWe decided to shorten our St. Louis stay and will stay at Casino Queen or Cahokia RV Parque instead of Sundermeier. While not overly excited about the campground, we don't plan to be there except to sleep. We will be out in St. Louis for 2 days to see the attractions and move on. St. Charles looks nice but we are cutting that out and stopping for 2 days at Johnson Shut Ins on our way to Table Rock. I am thinking we will be outside Branson for the 4th so we can move to Mountain View after that for 5 days or so around a weekend. I am looking into the 4th celebrations now. As for staying at Casino Queen or Cahokia RV Parque, I have done lots of reading and have not really read that anyone felt unsafe there. So, while the area is not the best and referred to earlier as a "war zone", I was surprised to not read more about safety concerns. Thanks for all the info and suggestions, it really is a huge help to us!!!!
