So, I'll probably buy the water heater next month.Propane distribution post valves leakingI have an old Century propane distribution post. I like the post because it mounts to the tank shroud instead of putting pressure on the valve. However, the 2 of the 3 valves on the post have a slow leak. Is it possible to replace the valve stems?Replacing water heater with DSIThe pilot light for the water heater on my 2001 Coleman wont stay lit. I replaced the thermocouple and no dice. So the issue must be the gas valve. Rather than buying a $150 replacement valve I'm going to buy a new Suburban 6gal DSI model. It looks like I just disconnect the water and gas, removed the outer door, slide the old one out and slide the new one in and reconnect. There is wiring near the old unit so connecting the DSI system shouldn't be too much work. The valve for the gas is off at the tank, so I shouldn't have as much gas in the system to bleed off as I disconnect the gas. Is there anything it would be useful to know before I start this project?Re: How's the quality of the new Rockwood PopupsSounds like I just need to keep my 2001 Coleman Niagara. My step-father bought it for me a couple of years ago. It has been a project. I've already painted the exterior ABS pieces with truck bed liner and replaced the roof, cargo hatch, and front storage seals. In-spite of replacing the thermocouple the pilot on the water heater won't stay lit. I think I'll spend the $300 and replace it with a DSI unit. The bunk end-caps are broken. I'm going to buy a sheet of 1" thick HDPE and make my own replacements. Maybe the HDPE parts won't break. Looking at this camper, if Coleman had spent a couple of hundred dollars more on materials they could have made a much better product. Fiber board instead of ply? ABS plastic on something that is going to sit out in the sun? I owned a 2001 Starcraft 23RBS hybrid. First they listed the bunks as king and queen when they were queen and full. Next the did a shoddy job of sealing the roof. Why they use the self leveling sealant that cracks in a couple of years instead of something like Eternibond I'll never know. Then when the water got in the wall panels delaminated because they did not use a water resistant glue. The pex fittings were not done correctly so the plumbing leaked. I'll never buy another Starcraft product. I don't get the impression of RVing as being a growing recreation activity. It is like RV manufacturing companies are going for the high end and squeezing what they can out of the lower end while they allow it to die. What they are forgetting is who is going to bother buying the high end units if they don't have memories of the pop up their family used to camp in when they were kids? This reminds me of how coffee was slowly dying. The major coffee companies over a period of decades replaced the better tasting coffee beans with the cheap bitter beans. Coffee consumption in a long downward trend because younger people weren't drinking coffee because it tasted like a$$. Then stepped in Starbucks to reintroduce people to good coffee and save the industry. Who is going to be the RV industry's Starbucks?Re: Anyone have experience with High Wall popups? mileshuff wrote: We went from a standard popup to a Hybrid and skipped the high wall. The weight and cost of high walls led us to get a hybrid instead. Cost to do was marginal and the high walls weight required a larger vehicle than a standard popup. So a hybrid made much more sense. More room and faster setup and tear down. Our Starcraft 21SSO weighed 3800# dry and just under 5,000# fully loaded with gear, luggage and water tank filled. We owned a Starcraft hybrid for a while. It was more trailer than I felt comfortable towing. Also, it leaked like a sieve.Re: Is my roof bowed or my frame bent?My roof is sagging in the middle. I found this fix which might work for me. http://www.gonecamping.net/stories/coleman_roof_fix.html I'll have to see improvise to find out the dimensions of the support block. I've also got some hairline cracks. I've read about the bed liner solution. Maybe I can find a company that applies bed liners who would be willing to apply the material to my pup.Is my roof bowed or my frame bent?On my 2001 Coleman Niagara when the roof is down the roof seal gets pinched out on the side, but does not seal at the front and back. The gap at the front and back are about 1/2 inch. We got the camper used. Does anyone have any potential solutions?Re: Anyone have experience with High Wall popups? cabranch47 wrote: I have a flagstaff HW27SC and love it. Had "regular" popups in the past. I like the higher counter tops, not having to fold down and up the kitchen, the hard wall bathroom, the larger refrigerator, stove/over, and the headroom (about 7'). You can't see over it like a regular pup but you get used to it. Pulls great, although heavier (3800#?). Good luck. How do you like the Flagstaff? I was eyeing the same Rockwood model. Is the slide-out kitchen as nice as it looks? Does having no seating inside except for the dinette become an issue? How's the storage? I'm thinking that the slide-out kitchen takes up a fair amount of space that would otherwise be storage.Anyone have experience with High Wall popups?I didn't care for the Starcraft 23rbs because I didn't enjoy towing anything that big. The 2001 Cole Niagara is ok, but I'd like some of the amenities that I lost in the Starcraft. A High Wall pop up looks like a nice trade off between the two. Does anyone have experience with the High Wall pop ups? Any disadvantages. At 6' (minus the AC height) high one should ride nicely behind my 2006 Envoy. The Niagara tows so well at times I don't notice that it is there.Roof Seal failingMy step-father bought us a 2001 Coleman Niagara a couple of years ago. We haven't used it much because camping with an infant then 2 year old just didn't seem like our idea of fun. Now that she is 3 and can follow direction on occasion we are starting to use the pup. Issue #1. I've kept the camper covered to protect the abs roof from the UV rays. Even so it is forming some thin cracks. Any suggestions on how to repair this or even cover the roof to prevent more cracks from forming. Issue #2. The roof seal no longer seals the camper when folded down. The seal get pinched out on the sides near the axle and does not come down far enough to seal at the front and rear. I think that the box has begun to sag at the ends. So, I need to replace the seal with something that will keep the water out as we drive down the road. Any suggestions on this one? When my step-father saw this used pup it was generous of him to buy it for us. However, I think I would have rather waited and bought something newer rather than being given this project.
