When we awoke from our fantasy dream we bought a new pickup instead. 🙂 Re: 1997 (Monaco) Beaver Brandywine 40M Thank you SuperBus, that's very thoughtful advice. As it turns out, the referred to unit has been sold. Probably just as well - it's 40' long! And like you said, going on 30 years old. We also looked at the cheapest Class A on RVTrader.com nationwide, right here in our own backyard - a 1979 Winnebago Elandan II 27RT. 45 years old! Oh yeah, we researched the heck out of both! What a lot of fun that was, but I think we got it out of our systems. That unit was so cool! And not in terrible shape. Of course it needed EVERYTHING examined at least, and I already kind of tried that route wth a '70 Travco. I just need to control our sickness. And finish my current 1999 Forrest River Salem very fifthwheel. A short one but with kind of amazing space! You see, I did a resto-mod on an 8' camper, a 1968 Travel Queen. We did a 1964 Roadrunner canned ham. And like I said, if I finish that fifthwheel, and fix up the old Dodge Ram, well, we'll be spending enough money on that. Thanks again. Cheers! (Boy, I sure hate this new forum site. Haven't been back here much at all in years and this new forum format wasn't a pleasant surprise at all). Cheers all! 1997 (Monaco) Beaver Brandywine 40M Hello. Being the old classic RV kind of guy I am, I'm thinking of an old Class A purchase. We've been considering a 3-5 year old quality motorhome. Something big, for longer term travel and more distant destinations. We have our little truck camper and a small fifthwheel for those other kinds of camping and for local stuff. In 2013, we had a 2013 Komfort TT and we're disappointed in the quality of build for new. I just watched a YouTube video by an RV inspector lamenting the poor quality of many newer RVs. Partly due to corporate aquisition and reduction of quality for their bottom line, and partly due to fast and sloppy build due to work ethic, hurrying mentality, and pandemic era building concerns. She mentioned 2005 and older were built much better. So - I went to a local RV dealer site and found an interesting older speciman. A 1997 (Monaco) Beaver Brandywine 40M with about 54,000 miles. According to JD Power it may be the 300HP or 330HP (I am assuming Cummins). What has anybody to say about Beaver brand specifically (apparently purchased by Monaco around 1997), Monaco in general around this time (I understand they were pretty high quality), and the idea of buying and owning a big old ship like this, considering for the less costly original outlay, more can be spent on fuel costs than say a newer smaller, way more expensive outfit? Re: Avion truck campers - Hundreds of photosHey gang. long time gone. Just checking back and saw some fresh Avion posts. 67, are you speaking philosophically again or are you heading to Muley Point sometime soon. Did you folks ever get there over the past few years like you'd been talking and hoping?Where to Find Used RV Appliance PartsI have a Maytag RV Range Model #CLY2231BDB. It is missing the oven rack. The oven rack is part #74003106. It is no longer available. It's been awhile since I've had to look for such things. I've tried Ebay, and other web shopping searches, Amazon, etc. What are some current web sites to contact for a fair selection of things like used oven racks?Re: Portable HitchesAnd just to kind of re-state what I'm learning is this... I'll need both a hitch and a mounting system. A fold flat ball is a mounting system, that some kinds of fiver hitches can mount to. Or I'd need to replace the trailer pin box with a goose box. In that case a hitch is obtained in the goose box and the mounting system is the hitch too (gooseneck). But another "clean bed" system is the Pullrite Super5th (for my long bed) which is the mount, and it includes the ISR Super rails with removable pins for quick truck camper conversion use. In such a case I'd buy a new Super5th series mount and rails system, and either a new or used fifth wheel hitch with the standard ISR rail attachment capability.Re: Portable HitchesThanks for the excellent info. The truck is a long bed with an extended cab.Portable HitchesI'm new to fifth wheel applications. We're looking into one, but want to keep truck bed access for our truck camper at other times. What are my options for removable fifthwheel or lay flat types of hitches? I'm unsure of the pros and cons for a gooseneck hitch or a fifth wheel. We're into a 26-32' likely length with a trailer GVWR of around 7-13K lbs. I suppose that has a bearing on types of hitches to use. Truck is a 2006 Dodge Heavy 2500 with the Cummins diesel. Thanks.Re: 2003 Forest River Cardinal 29WBThank you both. That's good info.2003 Forest River Cardinal 29WBWe might go look at a 2003 Cardinal 29WB. What kind of input does anyone have on... Forest River quality of build in the early 2000s. Memories and favorite likes or greatest dislikes about that particular, or your own similar sized and floor plan layout, models. It has 2 driver side slides, small in bedroom the width of the bed, and a larger one aft with sofa and table/chairs. Rear recliners. TV area on common wall of bathroom and living area. Kitchen on passanger side. Solid doors for stool and bedroom. We have enough truck and two would use it for longer stays (1-5 weeks) in various places. Thanks in advance.
