I can use the locking ring only by pushing very hard on the connection to get it started. In our case, we left the shelves in place and simply made boxes that fit. This saved losing about an inch in width. It also is very convenient to just remove the box to get to all the contents or to pack and unpack. We learned the hard way that we should have installed a positive door latching mechanism.Re: Cool Mods - Thread restored 10/18/2012Mineral oil is probably the best for cutting boards. It won't go stale, it is readily available in most groceries and in all drug stores, and it is cheap. Flood the surface, let it soak in and repeat until it no longer soaks in. Some folks heat it in a double boiler and add a little paraffin to help seal the wood. I have made many end grain cutting boards and used this for sealant. Works great!
