Overloading my Victron Multiplus II
I’ve had a gremlin I’ve been searching for and FINALLY found it! My inverter was overloading and I even blew a 400 amp fuse. This had me a little more than worried. I’ve been searching for this thing for a few days and finally found it! I narrowed it down to one of the AC’s but I wasn’t sure why they would have started acting up. I’ve been able to pull my AC’s on battery power for a short period of time when the power goes out due to the fact I installed soft starts in both units. Then all of a sudden the inverter started overloading. It took me a while to narrow it down to what the overload was coming from then the power went out and all I had on were the fridge and AC’s. So I looked at my alarm log s and it said overload on line 1. I thought ok, cool that has to be the living room AC. I got up on the roof and couldn’t see anything wrong with the AC. or the soft start. But I thought well, maybe a capacitor went out? But then as I was digging into the issue later that day I noticed all the power while running on batteries was coming through line 1. I knew for a fact I wired both AC’s on separate lines so this puzzled me. I thought what’s going on did something short out in the inverter? So I dig in some more and learned when on shore power the AC’s do show to be on separate lines but when the inverter switches to batteries it bonds both lines. So, the alarm would always show to be on line 1. So, I got back up on the roof and inspected the other AC. Nothing caught my eye on the unit itself so I looked into the soft start. THERE WAS WATER INSIDE THE SOFT START! The circuit board was shorting out. So the good news is I know what was causing the issue and the inverter doesn’t appear to be damaged. Now I just won’t run the bedroom AC until I can pick up a new soft start. We will be at the Grand Design National Rally in a little over a week so I’ll pick one up there. Water and electricity don’t mix!44Views0likes1CommentCANNOT LOCATE FUSE! Wiring diagram HELP PLEASE!
Hello Coachmen owners/mechanics with ELECTRICAL knowledge, New to group here - recently purchased "CROSBY" - a 35' 2002 Cross Country with 5.9 Cummins, Allison 6 speed. Needs a LOT of coach work before my 4500+ mile trip from CO > KS > MO > IL > KY > TN > SC > FL > AL > LA > AR > OK > CO, planning to leave October 15th. Got a LOT to do before I depart - THIS IS MY MOST PRESSING ISSUE: On my post purchase trip home with it this past July, I stopped to fill up with diesel and made the rookie mistake of thinking the chassis batteries were dead when I tried to start the engine after fill-up. They weren't dead - I didn't have the gear shifter seated in neutral. Not sure if what ensued caused my current problem. I had a big diesel tow truck come to the rescue and connect jumper cables to the chassis batteries and tried to start - only worked after I realized I wasn't in neutral, moved/clicked into seated neutral, then started right up. Haven't had a starting issue since (two months, 30+ starts). BUT, I'm pretty certain that all of these accessories stopped working at the time of the unnecessary jump start attempt: dash climate control (heat/ac/blower), windshield wipers, both fans at the upper corners of the windshield, the aftermarket backup camera wired to the headlight switch (but the headlights still work), and aftermarket touch screen stereo. The stereo didn't fail at once - the touch screen would intermittently not work, would power on and off haphazardly, and finally died completely. The guy I bought it from said he thought I fried a relay connected to the gear shifter and tried to help me find it doing facetime video troubleshooting. No luck. I pulled every fuse panel I could find searching for blown fuse(s) but haven't found any blown ones. The one thing I did find is burned/damaged wire sheathing on both sides of the leveling system wiring connector accessible from the front left exterior access panel where the hydraulic fluid reservoir sits. A friend of mine said the wires looked "burned" but I'm not convinced they are burned or even degraded from excessive heat, I think the 23 year old wiring harness may have simply degraded (the rig was parked outside most of it's life) from seasonal temperature fluctuations. I disconnected that harness because bare wires were touching each other after I wiped away all of the degradation. I never did test the leveling system before or after I bought it and won't reconnect it until I fix that problem. I called Forest River's Coachmen Cross Country division and they said they don't have wiring diagrams to share for builds before 2009. Does anyone out there have or know where to find those diagrams OR better yet, YOU might know exactly where I should look for a fuse/relay/component to replace to solve my problem - please enlighten me! Much advance appreciation here! ALSO - happy to provide detailed photos/video of anything that would help diagnose and/or schedule a facetime/zoom/(any video conferencing platform) for virtual assistance.47Views0likes2CommentsDoes this electrical box have any value to try to sell on an auction site?
Does this electrical box have any value to try to resell on the auction site? It would be used I presume and untested. I remember when my father bought a new one and installed it in the motorhome and something happened to the new one or the old one and I’m not sure which one this is. The back of the housing is cracked.Solved80Views0likes8CommentsNo 12 Volt without converter
So my recently acquired 2002 Jayco Qwest 253D fiver suddenly has absolutely no power when not connected to shore power. Both batteries are showing 12.5 volts, so seem good, but not getting charged by converter. All electric works fine with shore power, but no 12 volt at all without shore power. All the regular 12 volt fuses are good. There is no battery shut off switch as i haven’t gotten around to installing one yet. Someone told me there is an automatic disconnect switch that might have gone bad, but i can’t locate one. I’d appreciate any help anyone can provide. Thanks!Solved128Views0likes8Comments12 volt does'nt work
i have a 2022 Forest River Flagstaff 21FBRS travel trailer. In 4 years we never had an issue until now. On our last trip, our 12 volt system stopped working (fridge, slide outs, lights, etc.). I made sure that the the battery disconnect switch was on. I checked circuit breakers. All okay. Once we got to our destination and plugged into shore power, everything worked. When we got back home I had the batteries checked. They were bad, so I bought new batteries. Still no 12 volt working. So I assume the problem is somewhere between the batteries and the the inside of the trailer. By the way, I tried the electric jack using only battery power and it works just fine. But I guess that is because it is directly connected to the batteries. Any suggestions on trouble shooting before I take it back to the dealer (which charges $165 per hour).67Views1like4Comments2019 attitude landing gear motor issues
I have a 2019 attitude that every time I go down on my landing gear, it pops the inline fuse. I have changed the motor the switch the short circuit relay even with the motor not connected and just sitting there, it still pops the fuse. I thought it went straight to the battery, but it looks like it goes Under the trailer, somewhere. Where else might it go that I'm missing? And why would it just short out on the down or extend?38Views0likes4Comments2024 Holiday Rambler
My 2024 Holiday Rambler, Armada 40M; Running on generator I mistakenly used the microwave while running the cloths dryer as well as all three A/C’s, resulting in all three units shutting down, I know, I know! Well now not one of them will start back up! I checked the breaker panel and nothing is off? It’s supposed to be pretty warm tomorrow (July 4th in Rhode Island) so any help is very appreciated!Solved125Views0likes5CommentsBad tail light wiring
Hi All - I have a problem with the left tail light on my new to me 2002 Jayco Qwest. The tail light itself works, but the turn signal, brake, and flasher do not. Everything works correctly on the right side. I assumed the problem was a bad bulb, but it turns out I’m only getting about 2 volts to the wire that powers the turn break and flashers. I’ve reached in and pulled out that wire as far as I can and from what I can see there are no bad connectors there. Anyone have any thoughts as to how I can get a new wire routed to that light. I don’t see any access inside or from the bottom. Just FYI , the wire scheme is as follows: Right light (works) Tail light - Green Turn, brake, Flash - Brown Left light (only tail light works) Tail light - Green Turn, brake, Flash - Red (only 2 volts). Thanks, Any help appreciated.Solved148Views0likes5CommentsJayco 260BHW No Power w/ Battery, Shore or Vehicle connection.
Just bought a new Jayco 260BHW last year and everything worked fine. Brought it out of storage today and have no power to the unit. Tried connecting to shore power with no luck. Jack works fine. Battery was stored in the house and it measures good. I don't think there's a main power switch to kill everything, in that I disconnect the negative terminal on the battery after every camping trip last year. Checked breakers, fuses in panel under the fridge, but can't figure what's going on. Any help would be greatly appreciated.67Views0likes3CommentsPower converter
