Photo Thread - Post a Photo of Your Truck Camper Here
Post photos of your truck camper on this thread. Any photo with a truck camper in it is allowable; any brand, any year. If you have a couple of nice truck camper photos from your vacation, feel free to post them here. But, if you have 10, 20, 30 or 130 vacation photos you would like to post, this is not the thread for them. Just start a new thread and post all of them you like there. If you would like to also post a couple of the better TC photos on this thread, that is fine. This thread is for Truck Camper photos only. But feel free to post comments on posted photos. Because this thread is very long, I will occasionally clean it up by removing the older posts that do not have truck camper photos and other off topic material. Also, please limit photo width to 640 pixels. Please do not post thumbnail size photos, they are just too small to see and will be deleted. Please post photos, not just a clickable link to a photo. Please limit the photo file size to reasonable size. preferably less than 100k, but absolutely less than 200k. Large size files just take too long to download. Register at photobucket.com (free), download your pictures (takes a while), hi-lite and copy the URL, then use the "image" icon to paste the photo URL. Without going into too much painful detail, we had a mishap several week-ends ago. While working with sand bag crews on the Mississippi River, the truck and camper fell into the flood waters as a road collapsed. Because of a number of issues dealing with the wrecker truck, we had to release the camper as the truck was reeled up over the bank. The good news is that the truck is as good as new after a thorough rinsing, inspection of brakes, etc. The bad news is that the camper was thoroughly drowned. A lot of people had far worse trouble than we did, so we consider ourselves lucky. The floods are ongoing as I write. Our planned trip to Montana in June is called off. heh. However, I have now convinced my dear Jane that its time to really update the TC. After drying for several days we pulled out the interior. Amazingly the Zolatone paint that I had applied last year is good as new after a cleaning. Without burdening the TC family overmuch, I'd like to ask some advice other than don't park too near a flood :-). My DW was overjoyed that I had a plan for the bathroom: a composting toilet developed by Nature's Head http://www.natureshead.net/. Our holding tank was practically unusable and there was no real grey water tank on the 67 Avion. Our plan is to rip out the bathroom and install one of these and converting the blackwater to a greywater tank. Any experience with this? Finally, the roof. I admit that I have not really done the work I should have. Now, I need to remove the various sealants on the roof and repair it. We are also setting up for a solar installation. Any advice as to this? Here's hoping I have posted the pictures correctly. And many thanks in advance for your advice.836KViews0likes4347CommentsTC travels, 2014 TR, Pg 904, 2015 TR pg 964

The purpose of the TCU thread is to capture some of the informative threads on repairs, replacements, modifications, additions and general projects to our campers & trucks. It’s a great resource for ideas, information and procedures. Though the intent is to keep them from drifting into obscurity, obviously we can’t add them all and there are a lot of good ones. If you feel a thread warrants being added to this thread, send the address of the thread to me in a PM and it will be considered. Just remember, every thread can't be added, so every nominated thread may not make it. But the goal here is to capture links to the really helpful & informative threads before they fade away into cyberspace. This thread, Truck Camper University, was originally started by BradW in July of 2005 per Joe’s (growler67) suggestion. It has grown to include a lot of helpful information over the years. As current volunteer maintaining this thread the plan is to continue growing this resource. Thanks to all who have contributed! Note; though several included links are quite old and may have dead links within or missing pictures, good info still to be had. A few threads relying totally on missing pictures eventually will be culled where information can no longer be gleaned. Also, don't forget the Frequently Asked Truck Camper Questions Thread - See Section 24 NOTE: AS OF 06/2017 PhotoBucket no longer allows free accounts to link pictures. Many of the threads listed, users pictures were hosted on P/B, hence pictures replaced with P/B upgrade/watermarked picture. Many picture host sites have closed or no longer host free pictures: Tinypic.com, snapfish, flicker to name a few. Here is the new Truck Camper Enthusiasts Map SEND ME A PM IF YOU WANT TO BE ADDED TO THE MAP. This is the best way to ensure that you are added in a timely manner. I took everyone’s information from the original map and transferred it over. I assume since everyone signed up for the old map they wouldn’t mind being on the new map. I ended up using googlemaps and EVERYONE HAS THEIR OWN MARKER! Send me a PM if: 1. Your marker is way off from your location. Please remember this is only to give others a general idea of where you live, as in the town, not the exact position. 2. If you would like to add additional information to your marker, such as a description of your rig or a picture (I’ll need the location of the picture). 3. You’re not on the map and would like to be. Any comments or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Later, Dave.290KViews0likes84CommentsTruck Camper Trip Reports – V2.0
Introduction This sticky thread is designed to capture a selection of trip reports members have created over the years. There is a lot of great stuff out there and it would be a real pity for it to be lost because people could no longer find it. Really I am standing on the shoulders of giants by taking over the running of this sticky, specifically Silversand, and must thank him for his great work over the years compiling this reference. Of course I must not forget to whole heartedly thank those who have spent time compiling these reports which I merely reference here. If you would like your trip report added then please send me a private message. I also want to start tagging the reports in this reference with details of states visited, etc. so readers can use the search facility in their browser to quickly find related reports; so if you can include that information in the message that would help me a lot. Please bear with me if your report doesn’t appear immediately. You may have noticed this also happened under Silversand’s watch. This is to cope with technical restrictions that mean there are only a finite number of edits possible before a post stops working; grouping edits into batches and spreading the reference over a number of posts both help avoid reaching this limit. Enjoy. Steve (Sabconsulting). Screen name that is.
I have often wondered how some of the members came up with their screen name, some are obvious :C and others are totally :?. I know that since sooo many names are already taken we have to be creative to find one that is available. I'll start with the story of Spott, OK, not really a story but as they say a picture is worth lots-O-words. I would have use a single "t" but that was already taken (and never used). This is our dog Spot, he is now 11 years old, he likes to camp and he loves the water. edited to add photos he's 12 now (2007) but doesn't always act like it. Thanks to the new Chrome extension, the pics are back! You must view in Chrome with the extention. Here is the link: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/photobucket-embedded-imag/ogipgokcopooepeipngiikdkpmcpkaon?hl=en .. It has been a misconception even on my part, that adding machine oil to the crank socket lubricates the jack itself. This is UNTRUE! I now have a complete tear down with pics to show everyone what goes on inside and how to disassemble and lube the working parts if need be. This is a little lengthy but most will find the education worth the read. This is a model 4150. First you have to make a little tool like this. An old hanger works good. This will serve two purposes, explanations following. Remove the two screws that hold on the motor. Pull the motor off the jack. Pull out the spring loaded socket. Remove the lever and pin...a pair of flush wire cutters works well. Wedge them underneath and they pop right out. Remove the internal plastic manual mechanism...note how this is installed. one side has a round hole and the other an oval shape where the lever goes. There is a "C" clip here, you need to remove it with the little tool you made. Just put it in from the side and pull back. It will pop right out. Once you get the clip off then pull out the manual socket. This is the hole in the socket that is to be oiled, but as you can see in the next few pics, the only thing that is being lubed is the socket itself. Once you pull out the socket, remove the manual gear. Now as you can see the oil really goes nowhere. There is actually a lot of grease here. What your going to do next is pull this gear off that shaft straight towards you. Use that tool again to hook the gear from behind and pull it. You may have to do it a few times, the shaft gets a little burr on it but if it gets stuck ,just push it down and keep yanking, it will come off! Once the gear comes off, this is what the back looks like. It has two slots. The slot that has the closed ends is what holds the pin in place. IT IS IMPORTANT YOU PUT THIS BACK TOGETHER THE WAY IT COMES APART! Rotate the shaft so the pin is facing towards the corner and pull it out. Now pull the leg assembly out of the jack housing. Get ready to inspect and re lube. Pull this cinch spring off and inspect this bearing. Use an air ratchet or drill to turn the worm screw all the way out, inspect and re lube. Re-assembly is just the opposite of the tear down. I found that even though this jack was sticking on me, it was still pretty well lubed, but maybe not enough.....Hope this dispels any unknown facts as to how these things work. One other note is that if the worm drive of the leg was to wear out...seems like you should be able to replace it rather than the whole jack. MMMMMM...haven't got to that yet but I wonder if they sell it seperatly? Does any one know?203KViews2likes225Comments
