Just before being sent to the penalty box on another site,
I wrote about the 1600 BAR systems used prior to the CP4.x series. Another member there, since given a match penalty, and I had a discussion about his 2012 VW Passat. He is a well known VW diesel guy with loads of experience with the CP4.x series pumps. His new 2102 VW has a CP4.1 series HPFP. The pump has been derated from the 2000BAR rating previously used in the VW and still being used in the Ford and GM trucks to 1600 BAR. The piezo injectors were also replaced with older but more reliable injectors suited for 1600BAR operation.
It appears that VW has decided that the repairs on the 2000BAR system were becoming too expensive. They fought this fight for 4 years before they conceded defeat. Is there a message in there for Ford and GM? I think so...but Ford will not listen and history will repeat itself...
I am still waiting to see if Dodge adds DEF injection to their HD pickup's. A two tone black/beige dually Longhorn will look good in my driveway...I sat in one at a local outdoors show...nice truck...

Rickatic,
Looks like the good old days when we can share notes about how many bars we have been thrown out of and how many teeth we lost so far!
The good news is that the scientific and engineering community kind of works like this:

Have this visual of VW management kind of going through the same process.
As for DEF dosing, I think that is being introduced in 2013 model year for the Cummins 6.7 based on the current status of the "bank".
By doing that, there will be some more leeway for monkeying with the ERG, using less, and also advancing the injection timing a tad and still keep EPA 2010.
