Reporting bias it is called.
Ever go to reunions of high school, universities, etc.?
Over the years, more and more people (who have no hot new achievement) do not show up.
Forums tend to attract people with real or imagined problems.
More often than not, the reporting is entirely one sided.... complaints of a blown Head Gasket is never accompanied with the report that they used a tuner, or nitrous, etc.
Forum reading require careful sorting of the posts to figure out who is a whinner, who is a finger pointer, who is a wiseacre, and then the hardest, who is not talking.
The ones that are not talking are the ones who blew up their 6.7, had warranty voided, and then fixed it (as best as they can) then unloaded it as a cream puff to the used car lot --- hoping some sucker do not check the factory warranty status (voided) before money changed hands.
For example, bet you never heard of the capacitor caper?
Or the tin whiskers problem?
Both of these issues cost hundreds of millions (if not billions).
But you will never hear of it.... outside of here.
I am somewhat familiar with the tin whiskers problem. Gold plating was one solution to the whiskers problem.
My experience with failures of any kind is there is ALWAYS more to the story. Look how long it has taken regarding the 6.0. In real life, the truth is an elusive target. My zen for the day.:W
