There is nothing ignorant or kool aid drinking about readers of forums.
For every poster, there are many other readers that for many reasons, cannot post or talk --- especially some very knowledgeable people who are not permitted or able to talk in a public forum.
Do you honestly believe Engineers working in this specific area (HPFP) don't at least some of the time, read posts in these forums?
Readers in a forum that do not take advertising from conflicting interests have been generally receptive to fairly presented facts.
Brand specific forums, as rick found, are another story.
This particular forum have done a great job in stringing together the common threads between VW, BMW, GM and Ford on this issue.
In terms of fact finding needed for experts to debug the issue, I put the contribution by people like rick, huntingdog, and many others as top notch.
None of us have a fully equipped lab at our disposal --- such a lab would run over $50m capital cost and $5 or $10m operating/year.
Even if we did, critical things, like design data, proprietary knowhow would not be available.
To even get close to guessing at an answer is a major achievement --- when working with stone tools.
Rick did that.
So did Huntingdog.
And many others I have the privilege of bumping into here.
Hats off to all of them.
