I read a lot of theories on the failure.
Okay, what are ya gonna do when you have 215,000 miles or so on the Ford and it is going to cost $15,000 to fix the fuel system and the insurance company says no way.... good luck with all your theories.... ;)
You do what comes naturally when your 8 airbag vehicle blows.
It is cheaper to scrap the vehicle than repair it.
B50 design life of the Ford 6.7 is about 250,000miles.
If I were the manufacturer, the perfect car for me to build and market is the car that cease to work the day after the warranty expires.
Not a penny of extra value added that is not essential to completing its warranted life.
Kind of like engineering a mine that collapses just as the last bucket of ore is removed and the last miner leaves.
Newsw, I am taking your post out of context a little bit, but one reason the Japanese cars companies made such a dent in this country, and still do, is because their vehicles last a looooong time, with few problems. That is why an 8 yr old, 150,000 mile civic sells for more than a newer, much lower mileage American car. In the end, if a car company continues to build vehicles that fail at an early stage, customers will look elsewhere the next time they purchase. I still think this is an issue with American passenger vehicles (not trucks, but sedans)...can they last past 200000 miles with few problems?
