I need more than photos, really need you to find a local facility that knows DLC and have the inspection equipment to look at it and dissect it.
We are talking about coatings that are a few microns thick, so that probably mean Scanning Electron Microscopes, and I honestly dont know off hand how they would go about figuring out what coating is on it... though I do know there are standard ways to do so out of the semi industry, which is where the techniques originated.
Knowing this kind of stuff, having the equipment and experts around, is what separates the men from the girly-girls hanging around forums bleating about their miracle snake oil fixes.
(Typical snake oil fix: Add biodiesel to improve lubricity.)
