For the life of me, Bosch has had facilities all over the US that could rebuild and re manufacture diesel fuel pumps and injectors. I'd think for certain any Bosch center that can remanufacture a CP 3 ought to have some knowledge about the CP4 series of pumps, parts, spares, spare rollers, followers, one over pistons, etc as well as machining features to clean up the bore for a new piston?
Unfortunately, I no longer have said piston, or roller or the whole HPFP... no sample to take in to get reverse engineered. I think Ricatic has 2 pistons and 2 followers currently? Hit him up.
ricks pump is dead --- too destroyed to yield evidence.
I am not so sure about the Bosch reman facilities.
The technology is kept very close to their lederhosen, and for as business / trade secret a process as DLC coating, there is zero chance they will let the process outside of the fatherland or let any outworlder get close to it.
Based on what I know about those reman facilities, they only inspect and repair non-critical components, or install factory replacement parts but not do the real stuff.
Even then, we are talking about auto grade clean room facilities, and fairly skilled staff.
Ask yourself: the best reverse engineers have worked on their pumps, and so far, there is not a single Chinese, Russian, Indian, Taiwanese, and S. Korean clone.
Why not?
Bosch remanufactures these pumps after failure... a gent who lost one on his Golf with 90,000 kilometers on it that was a diesel mechanic in Vancouver, BC (yes, they fail on Canadian diesel too) bought one from the local VW dealership, got charged for price on a new pump, then promptly discovered that the Bosch part number on the tag had the last digit now stamped as "X" which is Bosch's designation for a remanufactured part.
My conclusion after asking myself is that they are not smart enough? Or the process is so proprietary/specialized, that one would have to be schooled with extensive degrees and OJT in the industry to figure it out. Basically, I don't want to be shot by a German spy... ;-) I am sure, if I was in aerospace technology still these days, working on some skunkworks project for Lockheed or McDonald Douglas, I might have someone with inside knowledge, but alas, no more...
Is that a medal of honor, or a Nobel Prize in your Icon?
