Yep -seems we have reached a point of "consumer gambling" when buying a new diesel truck engine -at least in the light duty market segment. Clearly technology required and reliability are divergent in this market segment for many reasons from cost constraints to fuel quality plus a whole host of others significant issues.
The changes coming in are as drastic as thee switch from leaded to unleaded gasoline, catalytic converters, and then electronic ignition and engine control.
It takes about a decade after a major change for things to settle.
We are not even 5 years from the last major change (ULSD).
Whoa... Sweden has been running ULSD in Stockholm since 1990... Europe has been running it since 1998 in select markets, and California has been offering Arco EC1 since 2000 in select markets in the Bay Area and South Coast Air Quality Management District ( San Diego, Orange, Los Angeles, Riverside and San Bernadino counties)

Bosch has been building diesel fuel systems for the ULSD the whole time, with hardened parts for the "dry" D1 type fuel we have in winter. The USA /North American market is usually the last market that they offer diesel injection systems to.
