This photo shows pump is chain driven in BMW 4.1 implementation:
http://www.auto-innovations.com/site/images8b/BMW_N47_P0035145.jpgBosch ran in January in the assembly of Jihlava most modern diesel pump, which is called CP4. This latest range of Bosch pump that operates at up to 2000 bar, compete on price AUTOTEC PRIX. pump CP4 has so far produced only in the plant in Feuerbach, Germany, now in Jihlava, which is one of the biggest races throughout the Bosch Diesel Division. for CP4 is characterized by pump drive cam shaft. CP4 is offered in two basic versions: as CP4.1 one high pressure cylinder and head as CP4.2 two high-pressure cylinder heads. Thanks to the consistent modular design CP4 is only one element essential difference between the two pumps, all other parts are the same. CP4 can be used both in personal as well as in commercial vehicles with an engine power to 350 kW. in the construction of CP4 includes many innovations. For example,
the ratio between pump and motor speed can be up to 1:1. So far most of realized transfers in the ratio 1:2 and 2:3, while the pump is turning slower than the engine. Pump CP4 was also designed with dual cam. While previously was possible only one feed per revolution lift pump can now be done with one turn feed two strokes. Innovations like these make CP4 unique and attractive for the market. Price Bosch - Technician of the year 2007/2008

The CP 4.2 is running 1:1 on the ford v8 with 2 pistons, 1:1 in all VW and Audi products that are 2.0 liter inline 4 cylinders and 2:3 in VW touareg and Audi Q7 3.0 L V6 Tdi's.
It's my belief that that failure rate per amount of cars manufactured for the V6, due to lower rpms, is lower per amount of cars sold than the inline 4 2.0 liters, or the Ford V8's with the 1:1 ratio. Someone needs to check the NHTSA statistics, the raw ones, to confirm that.
