The torque of turbodiesel power is worse than heroin... addicting, really really gotta keep coming back for it, once you've had it.
There are two ways to get diesel torque.
The old fashioned way is low rpms, large cylinders that give lots of time for fuel to combust and generate high cylinder pressures with lots of time to push down on the stroke.
The new way... high rpm... small displacement.. is to extend the fuel injection to well past top dead center, allowing lots of fuel to burn but very little time to extract the energy before bottom dead center is reached, and the energy is out the door.
In other words, them full throttle torque is purchased at a massive cost in fuel economy.
But diesel buyers don't seem to know or care about that.
I will take the old fashioned 2,000 rpm red line!
