Two issues here:
1. Original Owner or subsequent owner
A. Warranty registration (first owner) gives the OEM certain rights/ownership to data stored in the ECM/PCM/BCM/"black box" for multiple purposes including safety/product improvement/warranty.
Ford revised their owners manual to expressly say so starting 2008.
Suspect it is also in standard condition of sale of vehicle (bill of sale fine print).
B. Subsequent owners are not specifically encumbered this way but OEM's treat all customers the same in this regard to data/sampling.
If it went into standard contract for auto sale, that would cover it.
Other escape hatch is in order to have warranty transfer over to subsequent owner, that is condition.
Final escape hatch is the original bill of sale --- survival clause.
2. Service Order/Release of Liability at time of service -including "free" services. Wording on Work Order would be a key part as this falls under State level jurisdiction as a consumer transaction. Some States protect the consumer greatly in motor vehicle service transactions. Some not at all.
It is concurrent jurisdiction between Fed and State with regard to emissions.
State can set higher, but cannot set lower than Federal... think the lever on them is or they don't get highway funds.
Suspect that there is a license agreement whereby the owner of the vehicle is only licensed the software to run the car, but do not actually own it.
That is the truck I would drive through State consumer jurisdiction.
