If you live in a place with high biofuel blends and cannot avoid using some biodiesel blend.
Essential that tank be kept close to empty if vehicle is to sit --- because of the danger from biodiesel going rancid.
We are at the point where biodiesel is now a major avenue of investigation --- and until more is known, the following can be said.
Biodiesel is certainly NOT safe if microbes are allowed to metabolize it.
Assuming it leaves the refinery in accordance with ASTM D6751 (biodiesel standard) before it is blended with regular diesel.
Bacteria growth is almost a given the moment it leaves the plant.
An urgent question is what might cause a bloom in the microbes that feast on the fuel?
Suggested possibilities:
High temperature (up to the maximum / optimal temperature for the microbes)
Need a biologist to chime in here... what species.. what is their preferred habitat.
What are nutrients that would encourage growth?
What are biocides that would dampen them?
What are suppressors?
Can a natural enemy species that do not generate harmful metabolite products be introduced?
I think I just opened up a can of microbes.
