Anyone with a VW and the DSG 6 speed automatic transmission uses engine braking by default. There is no torque convertor in said DSG, just dual speed gearboxes and dual clutches, one for each 3 speed gearbox. I would say 70 to 75% of all sales were with DSG, and I can't imagine someone having a manual transmission and not using engine braking, going down hill. Besides, in many states, it is illegal to coast down hill out of gear. So engine braking is pretty much a given.
