Dear VW, Ford, GM, BMW, and other users of the CP4 pump:
We now know enough about the different versions of the CP4 to know the early models, before the current one, is trouble.
While it is still premature to know if the new DLC coated on one side, redesigned Czech made part will work fine --- until this summer pass --- we know enough about the old pumps to start thinking of acting sooner rather than later.
Rather than a mandatory recall, why not have the customers of Bosch gang up on Bosch on this issue?
A very modest concession that will help everyone is to lower the cost of the new part to a modest level like $200 --- or roughly what it cost GM, Ford, VW, etc. to buy the part at manufacturing level.
This new price would subtly --- via the miracles of the internet --- encourage customers worried about the issue to go ahead, and at a very modest cost, pay for the replacement with the upgraded part themselves.
As the old part will not necessarily have failed --- there is probably no damage to the fuel system that necessitates the replacement of the entire fuel system.
Everyone wins.
Owners / Operators of the CP4 are happy to have a modest priced solution.
GM / VW / Ford is not burdened with the cost of entire fuel system replacements or determining warrantability.
Bosch gets a solution for many customers at a modest price.
Why not?
