A suggestion, in Zion and Bryce--get out and see the stars--the sky is very dark (hope the moon cooperates) and the Milky Way and other stars are just spectacular. Since you live in Colorado Springs, you know that the weather in Oct can change at any moment so bring warm clothes.
Awesome, I'll add tripod to the packing list, going to try to do some stars photography!
