318 thru Nevada

Planning a trip to So AZ in a couple weeks. Taking 93 down thru NV. Programmed my GPS for the shortest route. Just south of Ely it wants me to take 318. Looks shorter than staying on 93. Is 318 a poor choice for winter weather or should I keep on 93?

Thx DJ

  • Hey ~DJ~,

Would very much appreciate if you were able to let us know how you found the route when you get back. Our family is potentially planning a trip through there (93 and 318 to Vegas) in early March and we would love to hear a recent first hand report to help with our route decision.

Hope you have a great trip !
  • We always take 318, good road... same as any out there.
Even if it was snowing I would take 318.

93 south of Ely is a poor choice anytime of the year because of an extra 40 miles and very high elevations between Calinete and Ash Springs (ie potential high elevation and winter issues).

BTW, it is Route 6 to Route 318 and the intersection of 93 and 6 is not really south of Ely, it is the last set of traffic lights as you exit the south end of Ely. ie turn right at MacDonalds.

Highway 318 is 70 MPH and a very good road. The only traffic that takes 93 is traffic that is not aware of 318. IMO.

    X2, Best choice :B
