The old Oaxaca park would drop to 90 when a Caravan came in! Surges are usually the fault of the CFE.
I am not sure how to try to explain this in simple terms. I am not denying that CFE could have problems - and/or cause problems. But in some of these parks you can have a surge because X number of A/Cs (or any other appliances) are running and dropping voltage etc. Then one or more - a few - whatever - shut off for whatever reasons - someone turns them off or they just get into that cycle where the blower is still running but the compressor cuts off when not needed. At this point there can be a surge in that specific system. It may not be a huge surge but it could exceed the limits of a surge protector - 132 as far as we know - not far to go if CFE is providing the standard of 127. This will trip the surge protector and you will lose power. Back a few pages in this thread we covered this. With many surge protectors such as ours there is a 2 to 3 minute delay before the surge protector opens the circuit again (I should say closes but whatever). This delay is to allow the A/C compressor to bleed off some pressure so when the motor starts up again it will not be forced to try to overcome the pressure. This delay is designed in. I understand in some surge protectors this can be adjusted but I do not know. Ours has the delay. So whenever voltage goes high or low even for a split second we lose power for almost 3 minutes. Having this happen all day long can get annoying. So we have the extra added benefit of the voltage regulator to try to control the ups and downs of poor wiring and whatever appliances such as A/C our neighbors anywhere in the RV park could be using. There are limits to how much power can be provided in many RV parks in Mexico (we have been in RV parks where they wanted a bigger transformer but CFE refused to provide the necessary equipment). There are many reasons we have seen ourselves for why these things happen. And though it could be CFE there are a great many other reasons for ups and downs in RV parks - not just in Mexico - though it is certainly more prevalent here. Anything can happen. We can follow every precautionary procedure and still have problems - but maybe we will not have as many problems. Pointing blame at any one specific reason in a specific place may not apply in other places we visit. Sometimes we can figure it out and sometimes we can't.
