I was one of four college buddys that drove Rt. 66 west to east from L.A. as far as Illinois back in '67 as part of our "around the USA" summer tour from Cincinnati. Out the northern route through Yellowstone and back on Rt. 66 in a '64 Plymouth Barracuda Fastback without A/C. Stayed in chapters of our fraternity when we could and cheap (really cheap) motels when we had to.
We kept a journal, but the guy that kept it passed away a few years ago. I wish I still had it.
Probably what infected me with the travel bug.
