If you go highway 2 in Alberta, do yourselves a favor by using 22X to skirt around Calgary. The traffic is bad and Highway 1 through the city is not fun. By all means take the Icefields Parkway to Jasper, the scenery is outstanding. As suggested, fuel up in Lake Louise. There is a gas station at Saskatchewan River Crossing but prices are outrageous. If you go west on 16 then south on 5 you will miss Shuswap Lake unless you backtrack on 1 but the scenery is still outstanding. When you get to the coast fuel up before you pass Abbotsford, gas prices in metro Vancouver are among the highest in North America.
